I've never outright stolen things from other people that were worth more than about $5 US, but I have conned people out of several possessions.
Guess I've got good charisma, and I don't even know it! :cheeky:
Good charisma only compared to others who have posted on this topic :p
I was kinda a thief, but it was more, erm... not cool. I had all the lights out in my room (which gets pretty dark at night) and I noticed that the disk drive light on my computer was on because I had a disk in. Now, any ounce of light in my room bothers me, so I naturally took ejected the disk. However, when I did so, the light started flashing and I at once thought "Oh no, it's a puppet from the Cradle!"
I stood shocked in fear for a moment, then ran and ducked behind my bed, waiting for that snoring sound. I heard it, but it was only my parents.
Still, I hid in the shadows like a true thief! That counts for something, doesn't it?

What I love about this sort of thread is that those with the kind of stories most of you would love to hear will never respond. The net just ain't the place for that sort of talk.
Who'd confess a real sin here? Only a fool.:sly:
While not a fool anymore, I will reply. I have actually done prison time for B&E's. I didn't know about the game thief until my release in 2003, when looking at a Wal-Mart shelf. I am not proud of what I did in the past, and now try to mentor other people who have started down the wrong path. So I guess from:ebil: to:angel:
So Rogue, I was a thief, but now just play Thief.

I've never actually stolen anything, but I'm very fond of Free Running and security bypassing (picking locks, avoiding cameras, that sort of stuff) so if I didn't feel so damn guilty about taking even the smallest thing, I'd probably be quite good at theft :p

Ashtrays, beerglasses and other cool loot I come across at pubs. Among other things a big plastic parrot, complete with feathers.

In middle school, I used to hide desserts in my pocket before paying for my lunch. I ended up doing it every time I wanted some sweats. I never got caught either. Also, I once stole a condom from my uncle when I was 14.:joke: Mainly just petty things, but I don't steal anymore. If you read the Thief manuels, they say not to go blackjacking people in real life. No matter how many thief games I play, I will never be a criminal.

i did go through a shoplifting kick when i was a teen and did get caught a couple time, luckily it was on the smallest of all the things i tried, but it did still affect me as when applying for the airforce, EVERYTHING is found, even things from pre-teen years and those small things nearly cost me my chance entirely, and to get in it delayed my entry by over a year to get all the files and information collected and waived.
but onto the interesting part, ironically enough the most expensive thing i ever actually stole was Thief 2. but it didn't last, one of the disks broke a few months later and i went and bought an actual copy because i was already hooked. i've since translated that into the more ethical method of downloading the game first to play abit, then buying if i like it to save my money on the chance of buying a game i just don't like and will never play

Okay, in no way does this fit into the 'stealth' category but:
I was at a festival years ago and in the mornings the local supermarket would be flooded with hundreds of people. The queues to buy anything apparently took a good hour so instead I'd just get some plastic bags and fill them with anything I wanted and casually walk out. The place was shoulder to shoulder and I'm surprised that I didn't see anyone else doing that.

I steal lollipops from young children, and run away laughing.

hmm well this was before I started playing Thief. The only time I stole anything was when my (elder)brother used to live with us and we shared a room. I used to get up before him when I got up in the monring to go to school and pocket his loose change which was pretty much lying in plain view unguarded.
He caught me once or twice but I got away with it. I spent it later at school in the cafeteria on junk food(those were the times) Of course I stopped doing that after the 11th grade and haven't stolen anything since.
If you want to get technical too, I've stolen heaps of games, music and software(piracy that is) and torrents too but I don't really care too much about that, I do buy some and there's hardly any chance of being caught for those sort of things.

Yeah, I have no qualms about downloading stuff that I would never actually buy, but I buy absolutely everything that I normally would. I own all of my favorite games (I try to buy everything through Steam), and have 3 legit copies of Unreal Tournament 2004 ((
http://www.deefrag.com/) this perplexes me... I don't even like it that much)... one limited DVD edition, which was my first copy... one Unreal Anthology set that someone gave me... and one Steam copy that I needed for testing (for Gunreal).
But I don't think this "never download what you would care about, and who cares about the things you don't" philosophy works with most. A lot of people will say they download only what they would never buy (like some odd movie or game that merely sparks their curiosity), then get lazy, and start saying, "Well, let me just download this extra one here that I'm more interested in... I don't *think* I would buy it," and gradually slip into the comfort-zone of just downloading everything again. (I say because I've seen)
The problem here is that if everyone did this, the software/games/movies/music industries would all fail... and so, for the masses, this philosophy probably fails. :(
