Why are you the chosen one?
The thing is with a forum like this is that most of the regulars don't need protection from 'dumb' threads. There is no need for a self appointed forum police.
If a thread topic is really that inane, it'll disappear automatically if no one is interested in discussing it.
Some threads that initially may seem vague can yield an interesting discussion, that is, if people start to move the topic in that direction.
Your proposed action is to make some clever insulting remark, that makes you think that we think that you are smart or something. While in fact it is making you look like you are unable to see value in certain topics.
So what if something has been discussed before? Well perhaps reply with a link to the earlier discussion.
So what if a topic is very vague? Well perhaps reply by focusing, embellishing on the vague bits to give the discussion some direction, some value.
So what if you don't care for the subject? Then leave the thread alone. You are not wise enough to decide for the rest of us what is of value.
Thank you.

dethtoll as an agent of natural selection? Hmm, I've heard worse theories.

Erm, hold on a second. This is getting dangerously close to "Don't post if you don't agree with me" - one of the most infuriating things I see on the Internet, usually borne from the complete inability to take any kind of criticism and/or taking oneself way too seriously.
I'm leaning towards agreement that the opening post does come across as the monologue to everyone's favourite smallest violin solo. Whilst people may have cutting observations that are not to your taste, that's part and parcel of the discussion. You post a thread about Pokémon collectables? You bet I'm going to let you know how unnecessary I find that to be.
This is not, however, an excuse to be (

Ulukai is on the money as he fucking always is.
I never said I was the chosen one (though I may jokingly make motions towards it.) I'm not trying to be the forum police, or to make you think I'm smart- it's not about that and has never been about that.
My entire issue here is that the original post is a big load of crybeef with a glass of whine. And I'm not going to let addink or anyone else stop me from saying so. I'm getting fucking tired of idiotic threads from people whose ability to enjoy things is severely stunted. What is it with some gamers who try so goddamn hard to be the smoking jacket and brandy glass type of asshole who looks down on "common pulp" like, well, Sonic the Hedgehog for example? Assholes like that aren't any better than the mindless drones who enjoy anything as long as it has enough explosions. If anything, the wanna-be-bourgeois pseudo-intellectual fuckfaces are worse because they seem to think their hilariously closed-minded viewpoint matters worth a damn.

True. But the original post is one of the most rage-inducing, IQ-reducing things I've seen in a while and I'm pretty much forced to assume it only happened because I wasn't here to swiftly nutkick it before things got out of hand.
So the original post sucked while the rest of the thread is okay, and therefore it's a shame you didn't nutkick the thread, even thought that would not have changed the original post, but only nuked the rest of the thread?
I'm not following.

@Ulukai & dethtoll:
The subtlety lies in 'dangerously close'. Dangerously close to "Don't post if you don't agree with me" is not "Don't post if you don't agree with me". If people don't agree please let them speak up, discussion is a important part of any forum. If you actually have an opinion and do care for the subject: by any means, do post. If you don't care, don't.
What I object to is that if some post comes across as inane, lately they get flooded with a near personal dismissal, preferably with a lot of clever wisecracks and word play. This while ignoring some of the quite interesting questions that might arise from the topic, even if it's not the main message.
This thread being an apt example, 'games having obtrusive gamey elements putting some off' leading to a discussion on depth of gameplay, if random elements introduced into strategy actually make a game deeper or not. And also a discussion on if it is in fact possible to have a game without gamey elements.
Not everyone has the same interests. Keep that in mind. All I'm asking is to turn down the aggression. If possible- try to get discussions to go somewhere instead of trying to make it crash as violently as possible. We'll all benefit.

Oops, I forgot to add a line about focusing on inane semantics. Sorry ZB, you must have felt left out. I'll do that next time.

In your humility, you have not.

Why are you so desperate to link the stunted enjoyment people with the smoking jacket brandy types? Both are assholes, but there's less overlap there than you think. Look at Koki, he hates Mario, but would you really call him wanna-bourgeois?

That's just crazy talk. Defensive, much?
See point above about being unable to take any kind of criticism.
Oh, and uh. Checkmate, Pikachu
