Yessiree, when lady opportunity swings by your door and sashays about by the peephole, you don't wait and see if it's one knock or two

I was never really into AA. I was gaming on PCs before the resolutions became astronomical, and I guess I just was never bothered by them (jaggies). There are a couple games that I play in the highest res. my CRT will go (1600x1200) w/4xAA like Max Payne 2, but for the most part I play at 1280x960 or in the case of newer games that run like shit, 1024x768.
I am a much bigger fan of Anisotropic Filtering. The textures' blurring when viewed at sharp angles really bugs me. I have never seen a game I can play on my PC be hampered much by cranking AF with the exception of Oblivion.
I am also still using a CRT that goes up to 1600x1200, but only at 60Hz. Does your CRT allow for higher refresh rate at this resolution? 60 Hz just makes my eyes bleed after a wile. :(
When I eventually switch to an LCD, it'll have to support 1600x1200 because so many older games (which I still play) use that as their max supported resolution

As was I, except I had a period where I pretty much exclusively played console games (2002-2006), due to lack of money for a decent PC. When I bought a new PC in early '07, I was blown away by the graphics of all of the big PC exclusives that I had missed during that time period.
I had first played D3 on Xbox and that was the first game that I reacquired for PC - the difference between the two versions of Doom 3 was like night and day. Doom 3 running on High at 1280x1024 with 2xAA and 8xAF (D3 doesn't support 16xAF for whatever reason) crapped onto the Xbox version running in 480p (equivalent to Medium, running at 852x480, I guess) from great heights.
Also I later upgraded from trash on-board audio to an entry true Creative X-Fi. OH MY GOD, the usage EAX effects in Doom 3 is utterly orgasmic, there was no equivalent in Xbox version.

Xbox version has in-game dolby digital 5.1 surround. Maybe you just don't have the proper hardware to enjoy it? Dunno, it was hailed for its audio (xbox port).
And to answer lost_soul, I run 1600x1200 @ 80Hz. It maxes @ 120 Hz (with lower resolutions).

I have my Xbox hooked up to a 5.1 rig (I use it as my primary DVD player, thanks XBMC), so yes I did play D3 Xb in discrete 5.1.
Doom 3 (and other IdTech 4 games by default) are of reference material quality as far as EAX 4.0 is concerned. The EAX effects take the atmosphere and immersion in D3 to whole 'nother level beyond, which is simply impossible with the Xbox version.

I never had an EAX 4 enabled card. I only had EAX 3. At the time I played it on PC, it was like the only game that even used 4, so I didn't want to spend the cash on a new Audigy when mine was only 6 mos. old. I would love to experience the full blown sound, though.

Now that you point it out, I think that actually has a lot to do with the recent uproar over
Diablo III's art style from fans (myself included).
While it's true that Blizzard is much more on the WoW side when it comes to art, the fact that this is the first Diablo game in true 3D is also going to significantly alter that inherent style which those older isometric games had regardless.
You mean it has colors other than red and brown?

All TRUE Audigy's were pretty much the same, save for better DACs and the like. Eg you could soft-mod an Audigy 2 into a 4. In other words, the big difference between all of the Audigy revisions were mostly software-based.

Really? Wow, I had heard Creative was sneaky, but damn. Wasn't the old Radeon 9500/9700 the same way?
