One cool thing about Steam is that wherever you are in the world if you log in your games list is the same as the one at home and you can DL and play your games wherever you are. At the moment, what with not being in insanely fast broadband Korea or Japan, this isn't great (although for smaller games its fine, e.g. Penumbra, Defense Grid) but when speeds go up the DL will be inconsequential.

It's just a pity the list of games on sale isn't the same worldwide.

Steam prices are pretty good for me. Here in NZ games usually retail for $90-100 when new but with Steam prices are usually around the $75 mark at the moment (due to the NZ dollar being quite strong against the US these days). I don't usually buy old games through Steam though since there are plenty of other avenues for that but it is great for the indie and hard to get, at least here, stuff like Cryostasis.

I saw some people saying that you can buy Q3A on steam and then run it with the IOquake3 source port or the official Id binaries.
I have all the Doom engine games purchased from steam. I just take the wads and use gzdoom. Much better than the dosbox solution steam uses "out of the box"
Same with Descent and Duke Nukem from GoG.

Yes, I also got Descent 1/2 from GoG. I play them with D1x in opengl 1280x1024 and it looks/runs great.

I was tempted to get Sin:Episodes from Steam a wile back because I would LOVE to play it. I'm hoping they will some day release a version without Steam, but I think Ritual has disbanded. Perhaps one of these weekends I'll just buy it. Ten bucks isn't much... I've had lunches that cost more than that.

Get it.. its a fun romp.
If you live anywhere near an EB or Gamestop. you can probably find it in a bargain bin for 5 bucks.

I got Q3 today. This game is still quite pretty 9+ years later. I always loved the shiny metallic textures/TV screens in the game and how they look different from different angles.
