Anyone want to join me in making a Thief Universe-inspired Flash card game? - by Gadget2006

Guys, my primary hard disk drive failed yesterday and I lost some information... :( Don't worry too much, the Gauntlet source code (the latest one) is intact, it was backed up in several locations, but I lost the latest background music that Dan sent me, as well as the new mana symbols... Dan, can you please resend them to me?

Don't worry! Things like that happen. I'll send them right away;)

Ouch! Harsh setback dude. Did you lose anything else? I think I've still got most of the betas lying around, if you need them.

Nope, thank goodness nothing important was lost - just a couple minor things that I've redownloaded already anyway... it's good that I have a habit of making multiple backups on external drives :)

OK guys, informing you that I've successfully implemented the two background tracks by Dan into the game, everything is working very nicely. I plan to rest a little bit from my work and perhaps travel for a week or two, but whenever I have some time with my laptop I'll continue coding Gauntlet beta 5. More info to follow shortly. By the way, it looks like there's no simple workaround in Flash to make the ongoing background music stop and then restart at will without recoding the current sound framework implemented in Gauntlet already. I don't feel like recoding the entire thing because it'll be a huge step back and will delay the release of the game by another month or two, therefore I think I'm going to release two versions in the end - the 'lite' one with no background music (only about 1.5 - 2 MB in size) and the 'full' one with the background music (which will weigh in at about 8 - 10 MB). Maybe I'll switch things around later after the release and implement a unified release with support for external music tracks or something like that, but I don't promise it. :)
@ Dan: Do you think it'd be possible to make an intro track for the main menu that is somewhat similar in tone to the Dark Mod's main menu soundtrack used in St. Lucia? The energetic techno beats in the current intro (as well as in the original Thief games intro IMO) sound somewhat strange compared to the 'dark' and 'mysterious' background tracks in the game... I really liked St. Lucia's main menu soundtrack - it sounded just 'right' in a game like that; I'd love to have something like that in Gauntlet as well.

I haven't played the Dark Mod yet. I'll dig up my Doom 3 and try to make it going and see what I can do.
