Anyone want to join me in making a Thief Universe-inspired Flash card game? - by Gadget2006

I will be away for some time so I won't be able to complete the custom SFX right now. But I'm still glad we finished the card art. The art is a composition of edited screenshots, cut-scenes, official concept art, wallpapers, completely custom stuff, glyphs and most importantly the magnificent art provided by redface. Hope you enjoy it :)

Alright, then the custom SFX part will be postponed to version 1.1. Now the only thing remaining is the manual. So, no volunteers to help write at least parts of the manual, e.g. about the basic idea of the game and the general setup (the playing field, the card areas)?... It'll take longer if I do it all by myself, but I'll do it of course. Version 1.0 will be released as soon as the manual is ready and as soon as some final testing is done internally.

How many people have played the game and understand the inspiration for this to be able to write a manual?
Are Stath and Dan the only options beside yourself, if they weren't too busy, too? OY!
Yes. We needs a manual.

Well, many of my friends have played it, but none of them know English well enough to write the manual - to tell the truth, some of them don't know English at all (well, almost)... If we needed a manual in Russian it wouldn't have been an issue at all, it would have been written already - but since we need the English version, I'm the only one in the "in" circle (besides the beta testers from this forum) who is able to write such a thing. Given the general historical lack of interest in this thread - I mean, only a little more than 10 different people ever replied in this thread since its creation in early 2008, many of the people who expressed interest originally have disappeared, and only four (if I recall correctly) people asked to beta-test the project, among them three in timely manner - Stath, Dan, and Nathan. Well, we have what we have - that's our options, and I'm afraid we'll have to work something out with these options for v1.0. Hopefully more people will show interest in the project after the game is actually released (so v1.1+ may actually benefit from more feedback and cooperation), but it looks like a typical catch-22 situation right now - to interest more people, we need to make the game understandable (so we need the manual), and to write the manual, we need people who would be willing to write portions of the manual and who would know how to play (and know English). The only problem with me writing the entire thing right now is my busyness at the University, which is solvable but is not a matter of a few days or possibly even weeks. I can (and will) write the entire thing myself if need be, but it'll take time, and that means the release is going to get delayed again, which makes me sad because the game itself is virtually ready for release. :(

One snag after another, but this is normal. Seems like everyone's at university. I'm not sure what the reason for the silence is on the part of those who showed interest last year (without looking at their post history for clues).
Can the game be FRAPS'd? :D

Alright, alright, you've convinced me. If you really need someone to write up a manual for it, I would be glad to help.
It would make things a lot easier if you could PM me a list of what in general you want me to mention in it. But if you can't then that's fine, it'll just take me a bit longer.

@ Stath MIA: Thanks! Sent you a private message with the details.

@ Stath MIA: Sorry to bother you - is there any progress with the manual so far? Can you please tell me what parts of the manual you're working on?
Dan on 1/10/2009 at 21:17
@ Gadget2006: Hopefully I will send you some icon examples tomorrow. The sfx will come afterward.
@ Stath MIA: If you need any help with the text, design or simply need someone to type in a few pages, just mention it ;)

Hey J.R. :joke: Yes it can, but only in full screen "Ctrl+F". Strange given its not a direct3d application.

Hey guys, sorry for not responding recently, I've managed to do some work, but not as much as I had hoped for. The last two weeks have been ridiculously hectic for me, many tests and lots of school work. I haven't even been able to log on for ages. I'm going to make it my #1 priority for the weekend. Here are a few screenshots for your feedback (please ignore the annoying error underlines, they will be gone in the final version):

http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/9296/mg3z.jpgI've been designing it with Powerpoint using the Thief font for titles and book antiqua for main text. Any advise and feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for bearing with this overworked taffer.
