I tend to ignore the fact that the combat's awful, and focus on the rest of the game being so damn good. It gets a little hard to ignore later on when it gets very hack-&-slash, but still, there's enough good stuff in the game to redeem it.

I dream of actually finishing this game some day. The start of the game is excruciatingly boring and the first dungeons are just simply annoying. I once made it past the first big city and was enamoured with the wonderful feeling of true exploration, when visiting new cities and places. Not a single game I have had such fun exploring.
Then I got stuck in some place that had no way of getting out and I didn't have a save game nearby and I pretty much strangled myself with my own penis due to the frustration.

Yeah, the combat ruined it for me. I find it hard to simply ignore it because there is just so much of it. What a pity.

You should have recorded it. You'd become the next viral video star overnight...:erg:

I actually find the combat to be quite fun, although I´m in the beginning of the game(lvl 12) with Virgil, Magnus and me, Lugard Bloodstone. A challenge it is as well. Real-time combat is way to fast, so I prefer turn-based. I don´t know if it fixes any balancing issues but there´s an unofficial patch: (

Regarding the GOG-version of Arcanum(from the RPG Codex forums):
Quote:
Pardon my ignorance but is the UAP/HQ patches compatible with the GOG downloadable version?
The GOG version seems to be just a pre-patched 1.0.7.4 version with a scene crack applied (ho ho ho, you pay moneyz for a torrented game), so yes, all fan patches are compatible with it.
Makes you wonder about the seriousness of that company.

I'd take Drog's accusations a bit more seriously if he weren't such a drama queen/ attention whore/ hypocritical about being a drama queen/ attention whore, weren't such a troll (and worse, a very unentertaining and obvious troll whose shtick is mimicing the equally hypocritical and worse unentertaining troll skyway) who couldn't be more full of shit if he'd renamed himself septic tank rather than droog, if anyone on the 'dex had the slightest technical aptitude to actually check and if there weren't a limited number of ways that a CD check could be removed in any case leading to a 'that amputee is just copying this other amputee- look they're both missing a leg!' situation
Or basically Drama Queen creates Drama, follow up news at nobody cares.

Thanks to this thread, I've now been to RPGCodex twice. Both times, I've come across some of the stupidest bullshit I've ever seen on the internet. Seriously. I thought that board was supposed to be filled to the brim with smart RPG geeks discussing the intricacies of THAC0. Not some guy bitching about GoG because "THEY TOTALLY STEAL GAMES FROM ABANDONIA AND SELL IT FOR THEIR OWN PROFIT AND BREAK THE EULA WHICH IS ILLEGAL AND HURRRRRRRR DERP".
Maybe I'm not being fair to RPGCodex here, and my two visits just happened to land me across some particularly bad topics. But based on my general first impressions, the whole site seems to be filled to the brim with bitter idiots.

The codex is... good for what it is. A proportion of the posters are idiots much like anywhere but it can be highly entertaining.
Just take everything there with a very large grain of salt. And if you're anything approaching internet: serious business avoid general discussion.

Does Koki still post at Codex?
june gloom on 21/3/2010 at 13:27
No, I think he abandoned it along with everything else that wasn't DAC 'cuz it wasn't hateful enough.
Zygoptera on 21/3/2010 at 21:05
He was still posting until he got banned- which is quite an achievement considering the moderation policy there. He hadn't posted as Koki for ages but his alt was pretty obvious.
