(http://thiefmissions.com/m/MiddayEscape) Midday Escape is set in a sun-drenched kinda-Mexican town, and also has a fairly non-standard plot. No cowboys, but you have sherrifs.

i replayed restler it was good but the different area textures confuised me,first part was kinda a city housing area a bit more modern then the castle was more midievil then the final area was kinda another castle/farm house kinda feel, over all fun mission
i also redid Right up there in the Mountains =remake of evil dead movie, very well done, would be nice to see the continuation to follow the movies to make a series of it
mid day escape i played so many times, real fun mission,i like most all day time missions
also i remember one mission where you rescue a girl and its kinda in a western type town
probally more but nothing 100% western
would be interesting if "west world" was made into a fan mission

Do I smell a "Western Competition" here?

"Right up there in the Mountains" for Thief 2 by Troutpack is what i recall being closest to a western Mission:
Today I learned that Evil Dead is a western.

ZylonBane don't play sarcastic with me, i know well what western is, knowing that there is no western missions, the only mission i remembered which has the same kind of house like you see in the western movies is that mission i mention by Troutpack. "Right up there in the mountains" is a horror style mission.
I doubt that someone will create a western mission. Most Mission authors don't like to stay way from the usual Thief themes.

You are probably right as you are an author (and also one of the more productive ones) but the biggest problem is perhaps that a good western mission would require a very good (experienced and creative) author.
Not only are lots of assets to make to give it an authentic feel but also problems to solve like for example guns/revolvers. Of course "Garrett" could be an indian who has only his trusty bow and has to sneak into a fort and avoid conflict with the cavalry but what weapons would the enemies use? An army officer could use his saber but without guns any western game/mod wouldn't feel right.
Western missions are usually total conversions in other games and good ones are very difficult and time consuming to make AFAIK.
For instance I distinctly remember a western mod for - I believe - Half-Life 1, which was optically attractive but very linear and ultimately a bit repetitive.
Perhaps this is one of those scenarios that could be better implemented with SS2?
