Seconding sparhawk. If TDS was amazing we'd all have been very happy. It wasn't. We aren't.

Beleg does have a point though, that people ARE overly negative. But I think that's just natural human nature, it's much easier to complain about certain aspects than it is to be the positive person and look at the good points.
I agree that TDS was overall worse than T1/2 to me, but it didn't "suck" to me because I still liked it a lot and had fun playing it.

Yes, people can be very negative about it, but there is good reason.
It's like getting a cake that tastes awesome, looks great, and is even low in fat. But then randomly throughout there are little bits of fresh poo. Almost there but noooooo!

I persist that it's primarily people's wish to find something wrong about TDS that makes them so unhappy with it. But well, go ahead...
I couldn't disagree more. I was looking forward to the game, I believed in it and had no doubt it would be absolutely brilliant. I did expect that it would be somewhat different, but I was more than willing to accept that. Once I started playing the game however, it was a completely different story. The first two games had their faults, but the overall greatness of their design and execution made those faults easy to overlook. TDS on the other hand, just kept tripping over itself...it was built on a rocky foundation, and the whole thing just detracted from the experience. I often felt like I was playing a late Alpha/ Early Beta build or something. It wasn't finished.

I'll disagree too. I was so looking forward to it and I've tried hard to enjoy it. Looking for info on T3 was how I found this place. I've tried TDS on at least a dozen occasions. I went as far as using a walkthrough in the hope I might get into the swing of things if I didn't have to work out what to do, but it didn't happen. I got through maybe 4 or 5 missions at most but was always aware of myself and I felt really clumsy all the time.
I still keep trying now and again but just don't seem to be able to get into it at all.

And there's the difference of opinion. To me, the bad aspects are more like little bits of garlic or raisins or water chestnuts, gross but not dealbreakers

Thief Deadly Shadows is the best game ever! I like 3rd person more than 1st. It's great that I can change it in the game just by pressing 1 button. Amazing game! The music and sound effects are superb! I love Thief 3. Shalebridge Cradle is the best level!

Have you been drinking man?
Take the loot from Thief I and Deadly and compare them for a brief moment.
Dark Project: The loot was exactly like the Mission. Unique, not only in it's appearance but in it's role in the story as well. If the Mission didn't call for "special" loot, it didn't try to cram it in for no reason. Everything was carefully placed. Finding the loot was like a mini-game within the game. I remember standing in the garden in The Sword and staring straight at the gold vase for minutes and never picking it out. Finding it was almost a revelation. Hey, if you are doing certain Missions that take place somewhere that wouldn't usually have loot, you aren't grabbing any! Like so many aspects of this notably groundbreaking classic, the loot system established in The Dark Project was elite, not mandatory. *sigh*
Deadly: *cough* The loot was exactly like the new "maps". Same template every time. So dull and drab, it made me want to leave the computer room. Rather than finding your loot based upon the needs and wants of the story, we've gone and crammed a "percentage" of available loot into seemingly any place we could find! Don't worry, if you can't tell that 1 of 8 tiny dull and drab objects that all look exactly alike is loot, it will glow in the dark, and blink. Run into a room and sit there. As soon as it glows, fetch it! Every damn Mission has 3 percentages of loot to find. Gone are the varying loot and required loot amounts. Placing blinking treasure in crafty places becomes pointless. So disappointing.
After all this time of not playing this game, the loot and the maps are the ones that still sting. I've long dealt with the meat of the matter, the broken movement and broken difficulties being the "deal breaker". LOL My God man, could you butcher a game more precisely?
*Nothing* was broken about Dark Project. The "quirks" did not break the game like they did with Deadly, rather they enhanced it.

... difference of opinion ...
Do you find it so hard to believe that some people don't EXACTLY agree with you guys? I don't like the same parts of the game that you don't like, I just don't dislike them AS MUCH. And I won't bother to mention some things that TDS was better at than 1/2.
To me, TDS was 1 step forward and two steps back, but Thief was always 5 steps ahead of the rest anyway so it's still a better than average game.

That is possibly one of the most disgusting things I've ever read. I dont know why, but that sickens me. My hat goes off to you sir.
