As you see, I removed "your" from the above sentence because I recognise that it's a standard definition but my take (and many others, as is evident from the discussion occurring) is this question is always going to raise the broader question of internal/external honesty and the many guises "lying" takes.

And it should! I just habitually fight the definitional slippage; the discussions are deeply related, but they're not identical. Lying is a form of dishonesty, but not the end-all. It's just a particularly interesting one because of our society's schziophrenic attitude towards it.

I am honest to a fault. I have unapologetically hurt peoples' feelings because they asked me to tell them what they wanted to hear and they got a cold, hard dose of reality instead.
As for self-serving lies? Doesn't happen. I learned as a small lad that it is much, much worse to lie than it is to be a man and own your faults.
Boasting and exaggerating (forms of lies) are even worse in my eyes. They seem to scream to the world that either your opinion of yourself is shit and you assume everyone else sees you as such, or you have some SERIOUS shit to hide. It makes me run for the hills either way.

Not much of a liar, but I'm starting to sound like a bunch of friars.

That's incredible. I found travelling around India very difficult but I absolutely adored the place. I can't wait to get back there. Keep us posted on your adventures!
Hmm do you mean traveling around as in city to city / state to state, or like within a city? I haven't gotten out of Delhi yet, but getting around the city isn't that bad once you get the hang of it. The Metro is pretty cheap and fast, and the riksha drivers are everywhere and can take you pretty much anywhere cheaply if you learn how to haggle. Especially when coming as a white man - I got quoted 3x the actual rate several times and replied with what amounts to "bitch please" :p

Yeah the drivers really try to take the piss don't they.
I really mean just travelling interstate. Sitting in stations or huts waiting for bus/train tickets, getting stranded in small towns, dealing with all the different class systems on the trains. Eating on the go, not knowing much hindi, all of that stuff. Was just hard. Having said that, I enjoyed it. I prefer this kind of fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants travel to any other kind. I learned that you just have to keep going forward and not turn back.
