Are you a stupid Thief?
In a word; yeah :p
Didn't learn how to succesfully mantle until TLC.
Didn't hold down left mouse button when lockpicking. Thought I'd screw up if I didn't choose the right lockpick at the right time. Was overly excited everytime I managed to pick a lock.
Never used moss arrows.
Made the leap of faith past the chasm of lava in TLC instead of extending the bridge - big mistake but not particularly stupid, I think.. The game was stupid though.
Tried to backstab the Trickster - and quicksaved after the first hit... :(
And the stupidest thing;
Mistook Brother Murus for an Apparition and released a fire arrow, realizing the second I fired away that he didn't really look like an Apparition, only to have the door in front of me slam shut, causing the fire arrow to blow up in my face, killing me. I could only laugh at my own stupidity.

I'm new here, and I bet I'm the stupidest too. I'm not au fait with gaming, and played Thief 1 for quite a while before I realised that you could actually SAVE the game, instead of replaying it. I made it through Bafford's Manor eventually, but the trouble was that when I got to Cragscleft, I was so scared that I was either paralysed with fear in corners, or running about wildly trying to get out. And whenever I died I had to start again from the beginning. I thought I would never get out of that place. In fact I was scared to go to sleep at night. It was a close call between continuing to play the game or taking the CD out to the garden and burying it to make sure the zombies couldn't get me.
I finally worked out how to save the game, but the zombies were still too scary for my delicate sensiblities. When I got to the haunted cathedral, I used a walkthrough, inching along bit by bit, saving every few seconds, and trying not to look or listen to much to what was going on on the screen. I'd almost made it to the end when I had an accident and began to die a horrible death. I quickly reloaded the last save - or so I thought. What I actually did was save the horrible death - and I had to go back to the walkthrough/inching/saving situation again.
And that's just a couple of the incredibly stupid things I've done - and am still doing.

My first time throush SoC I KO'd Raoul without ever realizing he wasn't an enemy. Then I proceeded to spend 18+ hours trying to find a way into the damn talisman room. After much cursing and very nearly putting my fist through my computer's moniter I finally gave up and checked a walkthrough. When I found out Raoul had the key all along I nearly cried.

ok maybe other memebers have mentioned it, but I will just share my experience just for fun.....
First time purchase the voodoo video card which contain all sorts of neat demos, not knowing that my 166 computer could run thief (the minimal though, so there is some Matrix moment during the game) so I didn't bother to play it, that's the first stupidity......then after found that I can play it, I quickly install the demo, then the training, quite interactive, seems real enough, get on with the training, harass the training guard (can't resist the urge of shooting at his rear end all the time), done, now to the Bafford mission. I thought this was a fps game, I will just killed everything in sight and find the scepter, sounds simple enough, ok, game loaded, ready to go, a guard came towards me, (he even says some greetings), so I quickly draw my sword and tries to hit him, he notices and accept my chanllenge, then a fight begins, oh crap, he is not bad, oh crap, one slice equals 6 hit points? oh crap, I am losing to one guard? darn it, his drunken friend is coming too.!!!! oh I am fragged, yeah there we go, first time play thief and mistaken it as a normal fps, and get killed in less than 2 min, shame, shame and more shame....(there goes my Dark Force: Jedi Knight skills)

So there I was, madly chasing Lt. Mosely, and I almost caught up when bum-ba-da-BAH, up comes the old skull and crossbones. I ran right past the stupid letter, I didn't realize she had already dropped it.

Took me a couple of months to realise that unspent loot and items didn't carry over to the next mission - I just hadn't bothered to read that page of the manual.
Just done Kidnap on expert for the first time. Lay in "ambush" at Site 3 for about half an hour before I twigged that the green light meant Mr. C had already visited. And I've played the level 3 times before! Well, 2½ - first time I played it, I applied the patch when I was half-way through. :(

I didn't figure out what was going on  so I thought it was a glitch and was stuck. Well I went searching for cheats and found the "End mission" one. *sigh*
P.S. Still gotta finish that mission..lol

Last night, playing SoC in TG, in the opera house cellar, stopped in some shadows in an archway to blow my nose (hayfever) and a servant walks into me from behind, freaks and legs it off down the corridor. I freak too (it's a good thing thief doesn't use voice input or I'd have alerted the entire opera house) and chase after him trying to blackjack him but I just keep missing - I finally get him and look up as three guards disembowel me. Yep - I whacked him right in front of them in full sight. Dumb - very dumb.
