i couldnt passed Thief :The Dark Project because i didnt know how to use the lockpick .
until "Return to the Cathedral" i used to break the doors (if i could) and if i couldnt i just didnt. i didnt understand why it always wrote that i got 700 from 2645 (money) when i searched the gold everywhere.
in "Return to the Cathedral" u have to bless the holy symbol , but the pool was behing a lock door wich i couldnt break her so i had to left the game :( :cheeky:
after few years , i had bought Thief 2: The Metal Age and found (in mission 3) that i could use it . Quickly i returned to Thief :The Dark Project and finished it.
(sorry about my poor English):( :(

I remember when I first played the Haunted Cathedral, I didn't listen to what the Eye was telling to me, so I was wondering around the mission, confused, then tried to smash the cathedral door open... finally, when I thought I was going to give in, I was overrun by a horde of undead and accidentally saw the objectives... "Follow the Eye's directions..." aha! :erg:

when I first played encountered the hammer haunts, I didn't know that thy could be killed by backstabing or 2 flashbombs. this made ome of the missions very hard because I didnt know I could kill them so I tried to avoid them, finally I got fed up and stabed one in the back, I then saw it fall to the ground and turn into a corpse. Also when I first played Thief 2 I didn't know that the robots could be disabled with 1-2 water arrows to the furnace. I would use fire arrows and mines to destroy them, big mistake, especially in FCBT.

How I open a door in real life (you remember real life-right?):
1. Approach door.
2. Grasp knob, turn and pull.
3. Walk through door.
How I open a door in Thief Universe:
1. Approach door.
2. Right click door.
3. Curse loudly as door opens into me only 10 dgrees or so.
4. Back up, turn, reposition self next to door.
5. Right click door.
6. Curse as door closes.
7. Right click door.
8. Go through.
Repeat numerous times each mission-you'd think I'd learn. Say what you like about Half-Life, at least those doors slide open! (embarassed grin)

In "Assassins"
"Just make one li'il noise!"
(dropped a bottle)
In "Maw"
(tried to blackjack Constantine)
In "Soulforge"
(made about 10 mines and "accidentally" armed and dropped one into the pile. Tried to disarm it but couldn't figure out which one it... (BOOOM!!!)
In "Blackmail"
(pushed the button that said DONT PUSH THIS BUTTON)
In that *%&*( mission with the Cetus Amicus
(Fired up the drilling machine. Wow. neato. Oh, and look here, there's a diamond in the hole! I'll just reach in and AAUUUGGGHHH!!!).
Ahh, my favorite ever.....
Those of us who played "Doom" way back in the day will recall there was a level where you had to make a ridiculous jump to complete the game. of course, the only way to do it was to face a wall and shoot a rocket into it. The blast would carry you, but you'd take a hell of a lot of damage doing it.
I tried a similar trick trying to stack a crate on a sunburst device. Figured I'd set off the device, the crate would shield me from damage, and awaaaaaay we go!
No, it doesn't work.

The dumbest things i've done involved chucking flashbombs at enemies (not dropping them) in Thief 1 and 2, with about 50 percent success.
And going the WORST possible way through cragscleft (swimming through the water) and ending up having to blackjack like 4 guys and killing a few as well. I didn't figure out that I could just go up the elevator, ending up RIGHT ON the catwalk above the factory, only having to blackjack one guy, until my 3rd time playing.

Ok.....when I first started playing I didn't realize you could carry a body! So to make it through the game, I had to make sure the patroling guards would be in a dark area before I would black-jack them. If someone was in a lit room I couldn't do much about it. I only found out my mistake because a friend told me about it. I also thought that if I took too long in a level the guards who were knocked out would wake up! Wouldn't that be fun?! :)
