WELL, here am I, my first post on these forums ever, and already such a... well, delicate subject :)
Fact is, if this thread were a competition, I would surely be the first-prize winner by far. I have not played Thief too much and never played Thief2, but I recently started playing a lot of Thievery UT, so I guess that counts. Here's the most stupid thing I ever did:
Me and a friend of mine had killed/K.O.d all guards at Folly but one, and we were exploring the level a bit recklessly. So he fires one Vine Arrow (wich, until that moment, I had never used and didn't know how it worked) towards the ceiling of the cathedral - might I add, the VERY HIGH UP ceiling of the cathedral - and climbs. I think he was trying to recover some broadheads that were stuck to the wall. Then I expressed my curiosity about what was that rope and how it came to be there, and he said "That's a Vine Arrow, it creates the rope. Why don't you pratice climbing it up?"
And there I was, climbing the rope. I kind of got it quick, and was even able to climb it to the end of the rope. That's when I look up. And I see the Vine Arrow stuck to the ceiling. And what did I do?
"Hey, there's one broadhead up here! I'l grab it for myseEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE*THUMP*!"
* Windblow has left a small crater :tsktsk:
I wonder if someone can beat THAT one :p

I tried fire arrow-jumping, needless to say, that was moronic.

In Thief 2, on "Shipping... and Recieving." I was trying to ghost the whole level, but had a problem with getting on the ship without being seen by the pirate standing on the deck. I quicksaved near the shore, and then spent the next 30 quickloads trying to put a rope arrow in the right place so I can climb up... Imagine my disgust when I found out there was a ladder on the back of the ship...:tsktsk:
Also, in "Precious Cargo" I once jumped in the water to escape, and in my hurry... accidently hit my drop key. While I had Very Vital Key, selected... I spent at least 1 hour searching the bottom for it...
Ever try jumping out a window to get away from a guard in "Life of the Party"? I had a very nasty jump-through-20th-story-window-to-escape-guards-complex...:p
Mmmmm.... SNAFU pizza...:sly:
Sometimes, when I use fire arrows, I lean around a corner to do so. Half the time, the arrow hits the wall of course...
I used to think that stealing the arrows from a guard archer would make him unable to fire. Luckily, I got that concept the first time through.:)
Oh... the things I have done.:o

bloody hell!
I made this thread on May 15 2000, and it still here! I've been gone so long that my account got killed as well. Oh well, good too see that stupidity is still rampant. Hopefully with Thief 3, the collective IQs of larcenists everywhere will drop a few points, again.

You have NO idea Cray_Man...
I got my name from all the stoopid junk I've done in like every game I've ever played. Thief 2 happens to be one of my biggest pet peeves.

Occasionaly stupidity and cringeing cowardice have thier merits. Not long after coming upon the bomb shooting robots I shivered in fear just to the inside left of a doorway franticly flicking my inventory when I discovered I didn't have to do a thing. The right handed dolts simply fire the bombs into the door frame and blow themselves up. I can't tell you the ammo I've saved.

Last night, I wanted to take a break from SS2, so I replayed Cragscleft Prison. About 6 zombies were after me (it never occured to me to use holy water), and I saw the elevator. I pressed the up button, hopped on, and shouted, "So long, suckers!" Then the elevator stopped moving. I had already been on the top floor. The zombies proceeded to disembowel me. :tsktsk:

So many memories of stupid moves but one that comes to mind is, back in the early days, I read in a review of T2 that enemies couldn't follow you into water or jump to a different elevation. Armed with this knowledge, I mantled onto a crate to escape a guard in "Shipping and Receiving;" since he was an archer, it really didn't make any difference to him. Later, I sought sanctuary in the indoor pool from the guards in "First City Bank & Trust." Chop, chop, hack. What the review should have read is that enemies couldn't follow you into water deeper than knee-high.
If I had played Thief TDP first, I would have known better but the first time I encountered an ape-beast in T2, I reasoned that since I'm kind of on the side of the pagans, perhaps if I just walked up to him with no weapons out, he'd want to be my friend. Turns out he didn't want to be my friend. Chop, chop, hack. (By the way, how the hell does an ape-beast parry a sword stroke with his arm?)

I was following a guard, blackjack raised, through a doorway. I release mouse button and the hefty weapon begins to fall towards the poor taffer's head when the automatic closing metal door swings in the way.
*CLANG*
*Stop right there, Taffer*
