I have another stupid thief moment which
comes from my experiences in Thievery.
I was on the TH-Folly level and I had just grabbed
the ruby and KO/killed all of my opponents except
for a lone human guard who was nowhere near me.
With less than a couple of minutes to go and only a little
more loot necessary to win, I discovered I had forgotten
to buy a set of lockpicks which would have given
me access to the needed treasure!:tsktsk:

My first time in Cragscleft (on Normal because I was chicken) I got to the evidence room, missed the locker, read the scroll, said to myself 'crap, someone has the stuff I need' and sneaked all the way back out of the prison to the mines and wandered around trying to find the guy who escaped (not knowing that in Normal you don't need him (or he's not there)). Failing to find him, I sneaked all the way back in again and finally found the evidence locker 3 feet away from where I'd been before.
Oh yes, and I never knew about quicksaving/loading. Everything took about a minute to load if I did something dumb. Which I did a lot.

When I first Played Thief 2 ... it was on an unsupported 8MB video card.... all graphics set on low and I had no visibility gem. The gem was replaced with a glitchy looking blur. I had no idea that was what told me I was hidden... So when ever a guard came around I would hide a hundred feet away.. not realizing I only needed a good shadow. Thats hard!

How about sneaking carefully around in a crouch, then making a run to jump a gap and as you swandive into oblivion, realize you forgot to stand up and run. :D :D
I still do it once in a while.

ever notice how much money they spend on Torches? Every mission you hear the guard say "wasn't that just replaced this morning?" If all these torches are being replaced all the time.. you would think they get their act together and get lamps to keep costs down.

It would seem that this forum thread is interesting. I have had a few blunders myself. When I played Thief Gold. Trying to break Cutty out of prision. Fact, a Hammerite will chase u underwater, didnt know they could actually do it unil I turrned around. Shaved a couple of years off my life. Was amazed. But found out, to my satisifaction, the Hammerite Guards cant breathe underwater like me. Was surprised they drowned before they actually caught me. (laugh) Imagine my surprise when this happened.
Another instance was that I knew you could knock out certain enemies, like Ratmen, or Kill Hammerite Zombies by sneaking up on them and delivering a one fatal blow by surprise. Another instance that caught me off guard, well, in Thief 2 (I have played all three Thief games, Original thief, Thief Gold, Thief 2) in Ambush Level, there are 2 guards you can not blackjack, imagine my surprise when I found this out. Frogbeasts, Crayman, spiders where all a challange, knew right from the start how to take them out, natually u can not blackjack them, with the exception of the Ratman. They are so bloody quick with thier swords it is not even worth fighting them. The bugbeasts poised a problem, how to outsmart them, either sneak around them, kill them or gass them, my best guess was gassing and killing, killing them was much harder, but if you sneak up on them, or catch them in a dark spot, its not to hard, dont recommend this though.
I have played Thief on all levels, Easy, Hard, Expert, with expert being no fun at all, cant kill anyone. Now I wasnt for killing everyone. In my replay of the games, I found it much easier to just blackjack most, with your few exceptions, pain in the butt learning to do this:ebil: , but well worth the effort.
Right now I want to get my hands on fan missions, have downloaded them, want to see and try them, find out what they are like. I know it isnt much of a surprise, but its something to look forward to.
I enjoyed playing Thief Gold, with the additions of the Two New Levels, and Thief 2. Had much fun with Trial & Error.

When playing Thief 2 for the first time... I was new to the thief game (never played 1 at the time..still haven't finished 1) and I wasn't sure what the engine could do. So when i first figured out how to shoot a water arrow into the big robots back.. i was not convinced it was dead. I kept thinking it would come to life as soon as I turned my back or gave it some time.. so I constantly watched my ass while around them... didn't know if it was gonna pull some possum move on me.

You can douse gas lamps? I've tried everything (but must be missing something).
I just now found out you can write on the maps.
I also just now discovered that you can save on gas arrow usage by using a noisemaker arrow first.

RISQUIT=Yes you can douse gas lamps like the usual torch...
When I played Thief for the first time, I always thought you had to take out every single person you saw and so there I was blackjacking the ones who were near and shooting broadheads are the ones who weren't.
I have never played anything like Thief before so the usual FPS objective was in my head... not for long though.

I just re-read the manual last night. I guess I had a bit of a superiority complex when T2 came out..."I've played TDP, I don't need to read the manual!", so I casually scanned it.
Guess, I'll go over T3's manual with a fine-tooth comb.
