Things I only learned in FM's, after completing Thief 1 and 2
* You can rope arrow into snow
* Mid-air blackjacks are not only possible, but very useful, and also count as a seperate score at the end of a mission
* Flash bombs can kill zombies (and while I have learned this recently, I still have never had the opportunity to try it)

Ahh, memories.
I didn't know you could change the gamma settings at ALL, going through Thief 1 so many times. It was awesome at first - I had the same disadvantage as all other guards, and had to play at night. However this finally caused serious (and terrifying) problems in the Maw. Guess which room.
The spider cave.
I couldn't see a blasted thing. I could only hear spiders - and I had to coordinate each one's position with that sound. I counted them - three in my immediate vicinity. I was doing pretty good, until I heard spider-alert noises and all of a sudden I saw a little avatar of Garrett wrapped up in web - I'd never seen it before. I was cluster fucked by - in actuality - FIVE Maw spiders.
And also - ONE arrow? ONE ARROW kills an unalerted apparition?!
And the - OUH!!

When I try to knockout a guard, I often miss. It happens most when the guard patrols are such that I only have a short time to hit him and hide the body before another guard will see me.
It must look so ridiculous: Garrett, the Master Thief, suddenly runs from the shadows towards an unsuspecting guard. He swings his blackjack, misses and runs back into the shadows :o

Heheh, yes, it looks even funnier in Thievery :) :)

I don't remember doing anything too stupid, you just gradually learn as you play and incorporate all of the gadgets in your game, but..
On the Framed mission in T2, I proceded by knocking out as many guard as fast as possible, to my surprise, the mission would fail after a while. It took me a while to find out I was only allowed to knock out 5 guards, so capped at 4 guards, I was forced to do most of the mission by normal sneaking and waiting for openings, it turned out to be quite fun.

Isn't it cool when you get diffculty forced upon you and you find out new cool ways of doing things? :)
That mission and other FMs that had blackjack limits, were very tense and exciting as I tried crazy things that I'd never tried before.
The reason this is fun is that so many things can happen in Thief since it's such a flexible game.
I mean, its a big change from the usual procedure - sedate every single human being in the level then run around like you own the place.

I describe myself asa veteran, having purchased my original copy of TDP on its first release in Australian stores. I played through the whole thing on expert, and thought (and still do) that it was the GREATEST game ever created.
I fell away from gaming for a while, though, and have never been big into the whole net-communitys thing.
Right now I am playing through my first copy of Metal Age. I am just doing 'Life of the Party'. Loving the game, and getting more into the web, I decided to go looking for a forum or two. Discovered this one, and pretty soo this thread.
(I know it has been said before, but...)
YOU CAN KILL UNDEAD WITH FLASHBOMBS?
YOU CAN BLACKJACK BURRICKS?
Seriously, though- why would I try to stab a bloody GHOST? They scare the willies out of me in the first place, and I cna sneak around them if I am patient enough....
Sigh....

Stabbing ghosts was something I tried in a fit of desperation in THief 2. Haunt was walking away and about to do a 180 and come back towards me (at this point in his patrol) Zombie was turning corner behind me and coming this way. I was in full light with nowhere else to go. It was do something or die like a sissy anyway. I figured, even though it sounded like a ghost, it looked pretty solid to me, so I should be able to hit it. Quickly I powered up an overhead swing wihth the sword and smacked him on the back of the head. I was so tense. When i saw him crumple to the floor I was amazed and half shocked. I continued on in that direction, running away from the zombie behind me.

*REVIVE!* . . .*zombify!!*
Yes! I'll never forget the very first time I played Thief. . .when I first encountered a guard in the basement of Lord Bafford's manor. Back then I was used to playing games like Legend of Zelda. . hehe. . .therefore I just raced right at him and attacked him with my sword. Then he ran away shouting for help and I let him go thinking, "HAW! That'll teach him! Gosh, I sure am smart!!" :tsktsk:
