In the middle of being immersed in the role playing of being a highly skilled thief, nothing could be more humiliating than standing in an elevator shaft waiting to move down, then being shocked at dying suddenly for apparently no reason, then realising what happened and picturing yourself stepping into an elevator shaft, pressing the button, and patiently waiting for the elevator to come down on your own head and squash you.

You can knock wooden doors in?? *doh*
Spoiler below!
Just recently, I suffered through the Escape! Experience. After literally 3 and a half hours of game time, I finally figured out how to stack the crates from the mansion to get into those treehouses. Oh, why didn't I just use the rope arrow from the beginning, behind the altar? I PLAYED THE WHOLE BLOODY LEVEL WITHOUT MY STUFF BEHIND THE ALTAR!! Aiieee! when I found my blackjack sitting there with a couple rope arrows, I just about cried. Here I had had to backstab and swordfight everything in the game, and here was my blackjack just sitting there. I hadn't been able to reach any of the upper areas, and was just dying for a single rope arrow. You have any idea how hard it is to swordfight jumping spiders??
Viola
I just beat the game again earlier and i sword fought every spider. Not that hard. Also, What the hell? You can Knock out Burricks,Craymen and bugbeasts? I didnt even know...And ive had this game for a very long time.
I am an Idiot.

Once in the clocktower mission I climbed up for the diamond gear, but then a hammer saw me running toward the wall. I didnt climb up high enough, and the next thing I knew he was using his oversized meat tenderiser on my ass!

*SPOILER*
Stupid is when in Thief III you go back to your building during Brothern and Brtrayer and cannot for the life of you locate the note you're supposed to find. Last time it took me, I swear, 10 minutes to find the stupid thing (and it's sitting right out in plan view on the wooden box). Last time it was even longer!

a tip for spoilers...highlight the text that is a spoiler, then click on the white S on a blue background on the toolbar. And viola!
Spoiler:
yadda yadda yadda
then again...that seems to take up a huge chunk. There's a thread on it somewhere...

Don't worry - I already knew how to do that:-) I don't really know why I bothered putting SPOILER because this whole thread is full of em.

huh this thread is oooold hope nobody gets mad for me replying this xD, well hope i knew there was a forum back on those days when i use tp play Thief The Dark Project ,i thought i was the only one ><, since i bought this game for simple cuorosity, well, i've read the post (well at least 5 pages @_@), and i think everything that hapened to me has been described xD, but one thing that made me a stupid thief was that, i spend around 3 months in the Haunted Cathedral, >< i couldnt beat that mission the first time, =S since my english sux (im not native speaker), i couldnt understand at all the Eye's instructions, so i went to every spot in the entire map killing everything ,there was a point where ,there was nothing alive in the whole lvl , i found all the loot ,and i didnt meant to, i tried and i did went to places where i was not suposed to go >< (like outside the cathedral walls and the rooftop of the cathedral), lol finally i realized where was the hidden keeper library so i was very exited that i beat the mission althoguh took me almost 4 months @_@.

Dumb things I have done
*Getting my foot caught in the jagged crack at the top of the crumbled staircase in Return to the Cathedral. Made so much noise (unsiuccessfully) trying to extract myself that the haunt and the zombie patrolling that area came and got me.
*Crushed myself with an elevator.
*Trying to mantle, but only managing to jump two feet in the air and alert everyone to my presence.
*The first time I ever played Shipping & Receiving I was playing on Easy and killing everyone with broadheads. I was sneaking about the main building and came across a guard at the other end of a long corridor that simply wouldn't die. No matter how many broadheads I shot at him, he simply wouldn't drop. And it didn't seem to anger him at all. He just stood there. Upon closer investigation the guard turned out to be a wooden training dummy.
*"Hmmmm. I wonder what's in this chest. Awww maaaan! It's just junk! I'm so annoyed I'll hurl this junk around the room and make as much noise as possible."
*Tapped the left mouse button accidentally, and blackjacked Jenivere.

Lockpicking - When I first got the lockpicks, I would not hold the mouse button down to use them like you're supposed to, I would go "clik-clik-clik-clik-clik-clik-clikclik-clik-clikclikclik" with the mouse until it finally opened.. *groan*
i did the same
