I am so old that when I started playing pc games, there wasn't a mouse! OK...maybe there was one, but not for games. Joysticks were actually still being used. I guess I was just so used to playing with keyboard, it was natural to do it for Thief.
Archery's easy. I use the Page Up/Down for looking up & down. When I started playing TDP, I had never played with a mouse before. T3 was quite a change because using the mouse works better for it. I've managed to get the hang of mouse navigation, though sometimes I still get a touch of vertigo when I move the mouse too quickly. :o:sweat:
Damn, I was relieved when mouse-look became the norm. I never liked keyboard look. Especially in faster games.
What are some of your keybinds (speaking to everyone)? Mine are modified from default.

Playing a FPS style game (Thief especially - you need lighting quick reaction in some situations) with no mouse is hardcore. :D

Really, my fingers know where the keys are. I never have any problems with being able to do things. Since I've managed to make it through every FM & TG & T2, I guess I'm hardcore then! :cheeky:

Guess I'm a control freak. (seewhatIdidthere?? ) From the first time I played TDP I had to set up the keybinds to be the most efficient & expedient for myself (modified a bit from Default).
Since then I've modified the keybinds of every single PC game I've played to be as similar to my Thief key setup as possible. :cheeky:

I had posted a thread about this a while back. Here are my basic binds.

Z = lean fwd, ctr = fire, alt = use
My number pad is configured like this:
open - run fwd - compass = nl-/-*
lean left - walk fwd - lean right = 7-8-9
turn left - creep fwd - turn right = 4-5-6
strafe left - walk back - strafe right = 1-2-3
keypad enter = crouch toggle
page up = look up
page down = look down
I guess that's just how I'm used to playing. Using the mouse for TDS was very disorienting for me. I've played other new games, so I've gotten used to it. But, I'm better with the keys. I guess it's a throwback to MS-DOS & DR-DOS days when keyboard shortcuts were THE way to do anything.
I also use TAB & Shift TAB to select items and select weapons by the number or with the keypad +/-.

Indeed you are. I bow to your lightning speed - I'd never be able to play thief without my precious mouselook. :(

AWW!! Don't feel bad. I'm betting that you also didn't take 8 years of piano lessons. That tends to make the fingers nimble.

There is an easy, albeit cheap, trick you can use with doors. If a guard or guards are chasing you, you can get behind a door so they can't open it, and then blackjack them through the door. They are K.O.ed even when searching for you. Not realistic, but nice if you're in a pickle.
