When playing excellent Sterlino's "Assault on the Gas station" FM, I made an "excellent" tactic decision, the King of my stupid decisions... :cheeky:
I thought it would be a good idea to attract the two Mechanists from the main Gas room outside it and then kill them.
With a gas arrow.
Oh wait, they are wearing the gas mask, don't they?
:tsktsk:

In "blackmail", I was searching the house closest to the secret side entrance. When I came upon the sleeping pagan upstairs, I could have SWORN it looked like a corpse, and I thought he commited suicide because he had that knife next to him.
Since he was "dead" I stopped sneaking around and searched for any valuables for the taking when the pagan stood up and said "who's there?" I jumped several inches out of my chair, spilled my coke and blackjacked the little bugger. If I had known there was a canal up ahead I would have chucked him in there too for making me spill my coke and scaring me more than all of RTC did.
I had a similar experience in RTC. I had no idea I had alerted any Haunts or that any were after me. I remember going back outside through the front door and closing it. Then I was just standing there looking at the glyphs on the door for some reason, when all of a sudden the door flew open as I looked at it and a Haunt came running at me.
The keyboard, which I had on my lap, must have shot upwards ten inches as I jumped. I managed to regain control enough to run for the ledges at the side of the cathedral, and make it up them with that Haunt doing that demonic laughing all the way.
Perhaps there is a thread in that. Best (or worst) physical jump Thief moments.
Another OT question? Did the Haunts in the original unpatched version of Thief DP hold hammers rather than swords? I always assumed they were dead Hammers and had it in my mind that they had held hammers, but on my second playthrough with the patched version they had swords, as they did in another playthough with the Gold version. So am I just wrongly remembering hammers from my very first, unpatched DP playthrough?

On my very first playthrough of a Thief game, DP, I didn't know anything much. I walked around Bafford's manor with my sword drawn because having a weapon ready was just how you normally play games with weapons, right? I had no idea initially, that it was slowing me down or affecting light levels.
I also did not know that blackjacking takes out a guard in one swing. I would wait until their backs were turned then broadhead them.
I also thought that this only killed in one hit when from the back.
I still, eleven years on, did not know some of the tricks in this thread. Blackjacking Burricks? Never occurred to me. Next I'll learn that you can blackjack spiders.

only 3 things i learned about thief later on,being able to lean forward and knock out most anything, being able to crouch at a window then hit and hold jump to get through it,being able to jump further by using forward and left or right key press at same time.
