yeah i gotta admit im kinda a dumb thief too
once i held a flashbomb in moi hands, and shouted to 3 mechanists "come and get me u faggots!!" and threw a flashbomb at them, thinking that they would become blind. the worst is instead of clutching their eyes, they ran and chased after me. well, not wanting to get beaten up, i ran away and fell into a pit.
i think that stage should be cragscleft prison

You know what I hate? When you throw a mine at someone but miss, and they chase you around and you're running around like a jackass trying to get them to step on the mine

hee hee, yeah that happened to me all right. This haunt spotted me and so I tried to toss a mine at it, but mines take awhile to activate. So after running around with this Haunt after me for awhile, I then try to run back to the mine and leap over it so then the Haunt will set it off, but I don't think jumping over it works, so it explodes and kills me. Not only this, it also sends my dead body flying across the floor. I then realize I can steer my body around corners while its moving, much like a race car. pretty cool/stupid, huh?
also about flashbombs, the key to making them work whether dropping them or throwing them is to make sure that it lands in front of the enemy and that the enemy is facing it when it sets off...

Hasn't *anyone* else ran around like an imbicile, looking in every possible (and impossible) place, killing, blackjacking, leaving every door and window open, throwing crates, plates, goblets, slashing tapestries, dying repeatedly.... Searching endlessly for that ONE key to open that ONE chest that can't be picked, blown up or smashed, only to find out that it was UNLOCKED the whole time?
aaaaggghhhh!
*Note: I have done this more than once {hanging head... sigh}

I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

hee hee, stupid Thief trick: this Haunt was chasing me around, so I tossed a mine at him, but it took awhile to activate. So I run around some more and then I leap over the mine with the Haunt behind me in the hopes of him tripping on the mine, but I set it off anyways even though I'm moving above. So it explodes and kills me. Not only this, I guess since I was running and jumping at the same time it exploded, my dead body flies across the floor, and I am able to steer it around corners and into rooms before finally stopping. Pretty cool/stupid, huh?

Well I just spent ages poking around the Thief fora looking for URLs before remembering that there's a link to Thief: The Circle at the top of every page ...

Thanks MsLedd ! I was just beginning to think that I am
not a stupid Thief when I saw your post.
I also had the exact same problem with doors

Quote:
Lockpick instruction manual.
To use a lockpick, use-and-hold it on a locked door for a few seconds. The handle of the door will move slightly to the open position, and you'll hear a continuous clicking until the handle turns and the door pops open.
If you hear only a single short click, try using the other lockpick.
If the handle jiggles but ends up only moving part of the way, you'll need to switch lockpicks and continue picking the door. You may need to switch picks more than once.
If neither lockpick works, then the lock cannot be picked and it's time to go find the key.
Note that you must be quite close to a door to pick it - closer than you would need to be to open it normally.
I mean, if you STILL had trouble with the lockpicks after reading all that... Wow.
Then again, it wasn't until "escape" when I realized I could turn the pages of documents by clicking the bottom right corner of the page. Until then, the first page of all of the documents I found ended with a complete sentence.
The Trickster's plans however ended in the middle of a sentence so only then I got the hint and figured it out.

Those sheds in S&R had the combo lock in them too? *Smacks self in forehead*
Not to mention, I've been throwing Flash Bombs in Both thiefs, many, many times, only to blindly (Literally) rush forward, madly swinging my blackjack??? Hey, it's worked so far

Most stupid/cool thing, I've done, though, is: I was unable to blackjack an archer in Benny's dead, so I tossed a flashmine at him, only to realize, he didn't have to run up to me to kill me. Not wanting to get any kills, I stepped on the flashmine, and blinded both of us. Luckily, I hit him, while running blindly forth, blackjack swinging madly.

FPARA - glad to know I wasn't the only one! I didn't think you were allowed to get away with blackjacking in the harder modes, and I made it past Cragscleft after about 2 hours! It was rewarding though.
