Look at me! I'm a stupid thief!
The amount of things I have learned from this thread! Lockpick problems? You bet. Looking for a key to an unlocked door? Uh-huh. Scores of other things? Of course!
Now for the SAD SAD part. I STILL havn't been able to crouch-creep across metal floors in Thief Gold. I managed it a couple times in Thief 2, but never in Thief gold. All I get is CLANGCLANGCLANGCLANG! Sigh.

Guess what? You don't have to drop flashbombs for them to work. There's a very magical procedure called "looking down" that allows you to actually throw the flashbomb towards the floor. Why am I posting this?

Guess what?! When Garret does that in Thief II, it blinds him! Whence the dropping technique....

I just found out today that you can knock out people by blocking with your blackjack and this doesn't count as any damage done in the stats. Its a little hard to do- you have to get really close and look to the right a bit then hit block.

Awright you want some real stupid ? Let's go :
To make myself even stupider, I'll begin by pointing out I'm a Thief I veteran.
So : in Thief II, first mission, just bought the game, installed it, jumping of excitement.
I barely listen to the first briefing of this first mission, I begin then, a guy talks to me and walks away.
I search here and there, then I peep someone by a window ... (I hope you already figured out what absurdity I did at this point cos it's so funny)
Hey, boy, gonna taste my blackjack.
I open the door, silently, I approach, carefully, my gem is pitch-black, alright, *knock* the guy falls ... hehe I think, suits you !
And ... *bam* mission failed : I just knocked Basso !!!
I laughed out loud when I realized ...
And another stupid thing :
I played the whole Thief II on "hard" and "expert" with my flashbombs blinding me.
I mean : I always planned my assault, let the guy run my way, turned back, threw the bomb, whiteout for everyone, but as I know the exact position of my foe my blackjack is already prepared to hit the bull's eye ...
But, of course, I must confess several "missing strokes", just you imagine how stupid we all looked : you got 2 guards blinded and a Garrett knocking on the wall, at the opposite ... making noise moreover !!!
stupid stupid stupid ... way funny !!!

Well, I also admit I did not realize you could kill zombies with flashbombs or kill the undead guards with a backstab, but th dumbest thing I've done I did yesterday. I've been playing Thief II a lot lately, and finally beat it this past weekend. So, I decided I should play Thief 1 again since it's been a while. I break into Lord Baffords manor no problem, just like the old days. Make my way to the kitchen just fine. Yep, there's that guy standing in the kitchen with his back turned just like he always is; time to knock him out I guess. CLANGGGGGG!!! D'oh! Forgot about the damn lamp hanging from the ceiling

"For a long time I didn't think you could knock out creatures other than humans. I had to go around slaughtering Burricks, Craymen, Bugbeasts, Apebeasts, etc. This made levels
such as Escape, Strange Bedfellows, Bonehoard, etc. very tough.
Another thing, to start with I did not know that you KILL a zombie with one fire arrow to
the stomach. I always aimed for the head, and wasted many arrows on my first trips through Bonehoard, THC, and RTC.
Also, I was unaware for quite some time that you could knock someone out while they had been stunned from a flash-bomb. This rendered the flash-bomb almost completely useless to me."
I'd have to say that I ran into this. I did not know any of this until now.

Oh my god...flashbombs kill zombies? I have a terminal fear of them, I can't bear to get too close to them and fight with them...that's basically what's stopped me playing Bloodstone Prison. D'oh....what a thick taffer I am..

Man, this thread just won't die, will it? I am however glad to see stupidity is still out in full force.
I can remember how frustrated I was when I found out a lot of these things, and knew that I had wasted so many hours trying to do things that were completely un-nescessary.
This thread should infact be compulsory reading for new Thiefers, as to avoid the annoyance of not knowing how to kill zombies, or not knowing that you infact knock-out most living creatures in the game.
Hmmm, I think I'll make a guide to this, sort of a "Thief for Dummies" type thing...

If anyone has any objections, let me know
