I really wasn't planning to watch this, but now I'm reconsidering. The trailer shows some signs of old school filmmaking, i.e. models, full scale sets, and what looks like relatively limited use of computer graphics for a modern action film. If that is representative of the film, I will go see it.
I expected more eye rolling over the top CGI sets as seen in Ep 1-3 and the Abrams Trek films.

My reaction to the trailer was weird. Initially I was like "man, this really doesn't look or feel anything like the original Star Wars films." Then that was replaced by "if this were a standalone film that wasn't part of a franchise and I saw this trailer, I think I'd want to go see it."

I think it manages to both feel like Star Wars and like its own thing. It doesn't come across as slavishly devoted to the OT and banking entirely on nostalgia, yet it doesn't feel disconnected. I'm not massively excited, but then I rarely am; I would say I'm cautiously optimistic, though, and looking forward to seeing this at the cinema.

It will either fulfill the congruity of the Star Wars Universe or it will not...Such potential foolishness will be met with the appropriate resistance.

If you mean the canon expanded universe, I certainly hope it will not. Sure, there have been some pretty neat things, I especially liked the stories woven in the early EU and video games (X-Wing, Tie Fighter and the Thrawn trilogy, everything with Kyle Katarn, the original KOTOR), but the rest is mediocre or just good enough to satisfy the fans. Emperor clones, really? The whole clone thing is stupid anyway, them being treated so literally and in such a visually uninteresting way in the second trilogy ruined the passing mention of a 'clone wars' in the first film. I'll gladly give up the few tasteful, restrained elements of the UE in favor of a truly original continuity.
We already know that faithfulness to the EU isn't anywhere on the scope of the upcoming films, so that's a moot point anyway.

I like the fact that our Star Wars thread is still titled "Are you effing kidding me".

Tickets bought! I'm going opening night, 12/17, first showing. Pretty sure I've never bought movie tickets so damn early before.
FYI, it's hilarious to re-read this thread from the beginning. I wonder what Fett's stance is now (although he's obviously got better things to concern himself with at the moment).

The mother of one of my daughters friends back in Indiana had a great life. Lived on a nice horse ranch...had a good job. She was drop dead gorgeous, too. Looked like a playboy model.
She ended up living in a van with a meth head. Got all fucked up and lost her kids.
