Bet you when they start digging through the history of the guy who they say did it, they'll find a lot of ugliness.

I saw the headline somewhere and thought that she had done the shooting.

I like how McCain's first reaction is to talk about contempt and punishment and to pretend that disturbed people aren't people too, and then has the gall to comment about lack of compassion. Easier than trying to actually understand the world around you I guess.

You know, I almost considered making some comment in the original post about "cue the inevitable crying about how guns r bad etc." then I decided to let someone else make an ass of themselves by bringing it up. Yeah, that's how I look at it. A friend of mine was wondering why there wasn't a security detail at this meet and greet and I pointed out that Gifford's not really a big name representative, she was just doing a quick thing to try and get closer to her constituents, she barely rates a security detail that would not only make her look bad (can't come out in public without a police escort? who do you think you are, Lady Gaga?) but also would cost tax dollars for cops that would be better suited doing their job instead of playing bodyguard for a low-ranking politician who's pissed off nobody. Nobody could have anticipated this, the guy is pretty clearly bonkers, and that's something you can't predict. This is one of those one-time, out-of-left-field type things that simply cannot be accounted for.
