Wow, Dishonored is great!
(so far)
I started the game ages ago when it first came out, but had trouble with the stealth. Being so used to Thief I found it difficult to hide based mainly on line of sight, and I eventually set the game aside. But I just finished the first proper mission, and it does in fact feel like Thief, much more so than I first realized. Glossy and somewhat gimmicky, but Thief's influence is blatant. I still wish that sound played a more central role in the stealth aspect -- I'm used to listening to guards, and here they don't seem to make as much noise as Thief's -- but overall I'm really impressed. The fact that this game exists is actually buoying my spirits for Thief 4. With a little more atmosphere I wouldn't have much to complain about (unless the rest of the game sucks, but that seems unlikely).
:D

The key for me was realizing that altitude in Dishonored is basically the same thing as shadows in Thief. Like in Thief, you can creep around out of someone's line of sight, but if you want to feel safe and catch a breather and assess the situation the key is getting to a different horizontal plane.

Yeah, I'm learning that as well. I thought I would do the second mission last night, but I ended up getting sidetracked breaking into an art dealer's apartment. Playing in daylight felt funny, I ended up using magic (which almost feels like cheating sometimes) more heavily than I would have at night.
Also, I killed some weepers, and some guards died by running through my retooled wall of light, so I lost my perfectly clean playthrough. But then reading the previous comments in this thread, a lot of people seem to think that letting the game dictate how you play (i.e. alternating from stealth to combat according to the situation) is the best approach.

Can anyone see the new DLC for sale on GamersGate or GreenManGaming (or anywhere else)? I bought the previous one from GG, but now it seems everything Dishonored related just disappeared from the site. I don't see it on GMG either, but that might be their region checking. It's up on Steam though (but I can't buy there, since my game is EFIGS and I'm in RHCP).
LATE EDIT: Nevermind, it just became available on GMG. They sell the EFIGS version.

There's also a 20% off coupon active on GMG right now, too, which works with the new DLC.

So, Playing Witches of Brigmore.
It's always nice to back to Dunwall and the more I play this the sadder I am that there is no editor.
And the more I just want to be an assassin and stop sneaking!
However, I do like to sneak and if anyone is playing can they tell me this.
I'm on the first mission and I've just got into the prison and away from the Blink-nullifying music. I've disabled the arc generator and I'm trying to blink up into the gap that's clearly there sneak into, where the pipes are. But if I try to Blink onto any of those smaller, double-pipes, I just fall. Is anyone else finding this? Is this a bug?

going in with a disguise so I'm not 100% sure where you are but with extended blink there were a few places I had to take a running jump before blinking. Just remember that if you stop moving mid jump blink will stop time for Daud.
To anyone who finished it:
was it just me who got a very Thief vibe from the way you took out the end boss? Not to mention her similarities to another Thief villain (using statues and possessing children).

No, I didn't take the disguise.
The bit I'm talking about is just at the entrance really. The first arc pylon in the prison. You can partially traverse that room on large pipes and above the doorway behind the pylon there is a pipe that seems placed so you can get through a hole in the wall. But although you can climb onto/blink onto the large pipes I just can't seem to be able to get up there.

I took that route on the way out and had no problems. Maybe you need to aim carefully?Edit: Oh a thought
Can you keep going forward along the ground, avoiding guards, then bear right and blink up into the cell blocks?
