I did say a kind of sequel but not really. Doesn't matter anyway. It could use a remake.
For one thing, the original is not liking my graphics card at all.

To be clear - I just want it to look as good on a big monitor as it does on a small one. I don't want to change the core game at all, nor do I want to change the isometric view, the text, the plot or even the videos (though they should be in higher def).
The game is perfect really.

I want it to be a FPS with achievements.

I agree. To me, the perfect thing would be a remake in the
Civ IV engine that doesn't touch the gameplay. The controls could probably be improved, but that's about it.

Granted, I am not the biggest fan of turn-based strategy games, but Alpha Centauri was really hard to get in to. Hard enough in fact that I have not touched it a few times more after installing it on my laptop some months back. I think I did get the basics down and managed to do stuff, but that game is horrible to come as a newcomer in the year 2012. A good reminder that tard-tastic playtesting aside that for the gamer to not "get" the game and abandon it is much worse than him getting angry about how dumbed down it is (at least for the company making it).
I know I could get into it and there's plenty of resources on the web, but the UI is horrible and cluttered and it's a graphical mess. It boils down to the fact that I have much more to do/play that I can enjoy as much than trying to decipher something that could be much more clearer (or at least have a proper tutorial).

The cut-scenes weren't worth much either, and it always bugged me that I could never see my legs when I looked down.

Maybe. I slogged through Bioshock, but after the experience, never bought BS 2, and am still very sceptical about BS: Infinite. And I quit HL2/EP2 somewhere halfway through out of not caring anymore about largely being a spectator in a thoroughly controlled experience.

(
http://kotaku.com/5945506/dishonored-protip-dont-do-what-youre-told-until-youre-told-to-do-something) Holy FUCK people are stupid. Reading about that was pretty depressing. Are people really such mindless robots that they just mindlessly obey word on the screen? FFS, you are an ASSASSIN.....If the guard tells you not to do something, that probably means that its exactly what you want to do.

I do feel you on that. Even the best game can be marred by a horrible interface. The same thing happened to me when I was trying to play the original X-COM. In spite of being in a place where I had shit else to do (night shift in the middle of bumfuck nowhere Afghanistan), actually trying to figure out the interface was such a painful experience that I couldn't be bothered. Looking forward to the remake though.

The UI is pretty much why I loved every Civ besides IV, even though IV is probably the best game.
