So, what happened to the project? "We ran into an unexpected financial challenge some months ago and we had to put The Crossing on hold," Raphael Colantonio, CEO and creative director of Arkane Studios, told us. "Since then, we shifted our efforts to other very good projects." Two of those projects are reportedly underway at Arkane's Austin studio, an FPS RPG and a "casual strategy game" for the iPhone, under the direction of Deus Ex-alum Harvey Smith.
Already known news (by me at least) since the trouble with EA last November, though I think many people here were still wondering what happened to that project (and why its forum just vanished one day).
Oh, and I believe Harvey is working on the FPS-RPG, not the iPhone game.

That's too bad. I was kind of planning to use it as an example for part of a game pitch that I'm tentatively assembling in my head.
I was also looking forward to swinging around alt-Paris and stabbing cops with a retractable sword.

They're not throwing it out and Arkane doesn't seem to be going away, so we'll keep our fingers crossed that this will pan out someday. You know Purah was on the writing team for the plot?

That "FPS-RPG" just wouldn't happen to be Arx Fatalis 2 by chance?
Yeah, I know it's a stretch... but I can always hope they'll make it one day.
Digital Nightfall on 16/5/2009 at 03:15
It's not.

Yeah... I figured as much.
I was already thinking to myself as I posted the last message: "It'll probably end up being Dark Messiah 2 or something similar to it."
Digital Nightfall on 16/5/2009 at 03:56
It's not that either. :)
I don't know what it is, I just know that they're happy about it.

I hope not. Nothing fantasy or medieval related at all hopefully.
