Nah, prolly more (;)), but the vast majority are foreign imports.
~1908, (
http://www.newlondonohio.com/know/scouts.htm) according to this site. All I know is that when I was in London ~14 yrs ago, one of the places my family went was a place dedicated to the guy who created the group. Apparently he had a fetish for walking sticks, because after his death the place ended up with hundreds or thousands of 'em, so the curators ended up screwing them together and using them for light furniture (all I can remember are racks of some sort... for flags, maybe, I don't recall).

Hey now, the English once commanded an Empire almost as big as the Roman Empire. We had a lot of the Far East like India and the Phillipinnes (sp?). We ruled. And we helped civilize the world. And then instead of blowing up all our countries and whatnot, we gave them their independance back.
... And stuff.
And also, the Americans invented country music.
Enough said.

And I like chocolate ice cream, but neither that nor this last post have anything to do with the assertion I was making fun of, let alone the topic of this post, so why bring it up? ;)

Hate to say thins but you massacred Indians by the millions (the ones in India) and other natives by 10s of 10000s. The only reason Brits gave their colonies independance is that after two WWs they had no power to keep whatever they've conquered.
British Empire was much bigger than Roman, but less than Mongolian. :)
I think there's no reason to be proud of any imperial gains as no country's policies are made by saints. Be it the Roman British, or Soviet Empires.

maille is ye olde english way of spelling it.
Oh, and Griff is right, for once, the british didn't give up their lands freely, they just didn't have the $$$ to continue to fight the natives into submission. They also killed lots!
America, of course, is perfectly pure in their dealings with world /grin
