I will wait a while for further reports or perhaps a change of the malware assessment
I suggest that you submit it as a potential false-positive to the complaining service -- part of their daily jobs will be investigating such things; but it won't happen if no one tells them about it.

I have the earlier version and it works fine. But this one won't install. Per their site I have to change all the file names to lower case. That seems like to much work. Why can't they get their installer to work with all files?

Are you talking about (
https://wiki.arx-libertatis.org/FAQ#Can_savegames_from_the_original_Arx_Fatalis_be_used_with_Arx_Libertatis.3F) importing save files from the original game? That's the only such note I can see.
If not, can you link to the relevant part of the site? Failing that, you may have misunderstood something.

That seems like too much work
I mean... we're talking about thousands of hours of effort that have been given for free for anyone to benefit from. But if renaming some files is too much work, it's not as if anyone is
forcing you to take advantage of any of this.
On the off-chance that you really do have to do this to a large number of files, a bit of research will certainly provide you with multiple options for changing filenames to lower-case in a semi-automated process.

I'm also not an expert, but to me that sounds incredibly common. For starters, that describes about 99% of shell scripts :) but I'm sure a large proportion of the PC games I've played over the years had some kind of launcher program.
Yeah, other games do launchers as well, maybe it's the code-signing, maybe it's something else. Maybe this is (
https://softwareengineering.stackexchange.com/questions/191003/how-to-prevent-my-executable-being-treated-from-av-like-bad-or-virus) just picking up an unfortunate sequence of bytes and I'm overthinking it. I don't think shell or batch scripts get treated the same way, but it's really not my field. Either way, if it's a recurring issue I still gotta wonder whether it's not better to jettison the troublesome launcher and split the packages rather than wait for AVs to whitelist it. Most users will bolt the instant their browser blocks the DL, they won't even give it a local scan. I only came back after the second hit because I noticed the TTLG link on the website.
Anyway, here's a fresh breakdown (working with the Windows binaries package here, not the installer) - Firefox flagged the .zip, I carried on and unpacked it. Windows Defender cleared it but Malwarebytes flagged
arx-portable.exe so I let it delete that. Then I packed the whole thing up again, stuck it into VirusTotal and... it got flagged again. Mostly by no-names, but also Malwarebytes and McAffee. So I started uploading the executables one by one and 21 vendors flagged the main
arx.exe. Okay, booted that one too, but then I also got a solitary hit on
/bin/x86/arxtool.exe from a SecureAge APEX (Acronis).
So... what's arxtool.exe, is it a required component? Don't get me wrong, I figure it's a false positive from a single security solution that doesn't even have a Wikipedia entry, but I wouldn't mind crossing the t's and dotting the i's.

Thanks, man! Got it installed, working nicely.

A new bugfix release is out: Arx Libertatis 1.2.1
This release is a hotfix addressing an unintended change to the calculation of the player armor class as well as poison and magic resistance. It also restores death screams which were missing for most NPCs and fixes issues with using stacks of potions by dropping them on the player book and fixes number of crashes, performance issues and bugs. This release also restores Windows XP support for the official binaries.
Announcement with more details: (

"restores death screams" is the best release note I've seen in quite some time :)

It don't work for my original copy. i even changed everything to lower case as they suggested. It just want patch 1.21 reinstalled and that does nothing to change it. So I will stick with the earlier version before 1.2.

FWIW I asked you for clarification about that previously in this thread, as it isn't obvious what you're referring to or doing.
