As you will see from the latest update on StygianAbyss.com, Arkane have made the decision to not include a multiplayer mode in Arx Fatalis, despite having big plans for it in the past.
Any thoughts? Good or bad move? How important is a multiplayer mode to you in such a game?
It's the promise of the great single player that attracted me to Arx, so the multiplayer never seemed any more than a nice "bonus" to these eyes. As such I have to admit that I'm glad they chose to concentrate on singleplayer, rather than sacrifice the resources and time required to develop a decent multiplayer mode. But that's me...

I would say it isn't terribly important, but it would've been incredibly sweet to at least say a coop mode, a la System Shock 2 included, or at least patched in. These dungeons get lonely after awhile.

From what I heard, the Multiplayer wasn't going to include co-op anyways, and from that point, I say good riddance. It would just add some worthless competative mode to an otherwise great game. True, I don't know for sure yet, but I have a good feeling it's going to be a great game :D

Great choice, we don't want to see single player games sacrificed on the altar of multiplayerism... :eww:

As if this is any surprise. ;)

I swear that this thread was called something else before...

I'm sure Arx multiplayer would have been good fun, but single player takes precedence in a game like this.
Co-op play would be utterly fantastic, however -- well executed co-op gaming with friends really is about the most fun you can have with a computer game.

i didn't even know it was supposed to have MP until it was cancelled so i feel nothing. Bring on the SP already. :)

Although I'm much more interested in the single-player game, once I have finished the game more than three times, I'd have been happy to play it with friends in order to continue having pleasure with the game.
Moreover, the promises of a great unseen multiplayer mode were very interesting and now I'm a little bit disappointed. But that won't prevent me from buying the game for sure! :)
