A lot of first person games today copy the Dark Engine AI, in my opinion. I though that the AI in Deus Ex was vastly inferior to the Thief games. However, now that Paul Tazour is on the job for both games, I'm sure that were going to see some pretty amazing stuff :)

Hi Arx people,
Just wondering how you guys are going about supporting 3D chipsets. Will you be using a testbed system with nVida, Kryo 2 and Rage cards? I have a Kryo 2 and the only trouble with the card is that sometimes there are minor graphical glitches. This can either be due to drivers but is sometimes realted to the game. Have you tested it on a Kryo 2 yet?
Also will there be support for EAX etc?
Also, just a strange coincidence, i had a dream last night that I went into my local games store and saw a single copy of Arx sitting in its DVD case on the shelf, so obviously I bought it. Damn it!
Is that really sad? ;)

It's "Kyro2", not "Kryo2". ;)

We tested the game on Kyro and Kyro2: So far, perfomances are not as good as Nvidia cards, but the game runs. There are a few glitches that we haven't managed to fix yet, like some color key problems, but that's mainly it.
We support EAX indeed.

What about 3dfx chipsets (ie Voodoo3/4/5)?
PraetorJudis on 21/2/2002 at 00:53
3dfx? Oh my.
Dark Angel on 21/2/2002 at 04:50
Uh huh.....are they that outdated already?
PraetorJudis on 21/2/2002 at 10:38
Well, given that 3dfx is no longing a going concern, I don't expect their chipsets are going to get much official support from game developers. When a chipset is tested by a production team, they're able to go directly to the chipset manufacturer to have them help trouble shoot any problems, or to get them to clarify instruction sets and such (I'm not saying all do this, but I know at least a few do). Since there aren't any current drivers out, and there's no company to produce them, I don't think we'll be seeing much official support for the cards.

I always spell kyro > kryo by mistake for some reason. Doh!
So I have a 1 Ghz Athlon With a 64mb Kyro 2 ...... will I be getting 30 FPS + at a resolution of 1024x768, 32 bit colur, high detail, etc?
The kryo 2 cant be far behind nVida GeForce 2 cards, surely?
Also do you estimate that the graphical glitches will be sorted before release?
By the way a good way to get some coverage of your game is to send a working beta to PC ZONE in the uk. If the game is worth its salt then they will really hammer it for you and go on about it. Seems like you need to make people aware or it , the more the better. PC ZONE loves the underworld series so I am sure they would do a feature on you. They did a big feature on Laser Squad Nemesis made by now defunct X-Com / Mythos games gang.
Cheers,
ED
