thief 3 was a good game
For what it is, best of the rest. Can't stand it because of what it isn't.

Well, the magazine scans look beautiful. No matter what you think of the gameplay (I personally like it), the art design in the game was beautiful. It was just pretty to look at. This seems to have outdone that. Even though the screenshots probably aren't 100% in-game.

I think that's what keeps me playing in Assassin's Creed. The game has cool moments but is more repetitive than Bioshock... yet I still get a moment of "Whoa...!" whenever I climb a high tower and look around at the surroundings.
Mind you, I've only done this with a dozen towers so far. Once I've done 30-40, I might get really bored.

I've just started playing the original
Assassin's Creed on PC. Is there any point in doing all the side-missions? Does it improve my character's abilities or equipment? Or might I just as well not do all the repetitive mini-jobs over and over again?
if you do sidemissions > 15 (even climbing a tower nets you 1 mission) your synchronization bar (aka health-meter) gets elongated one notch. if you do the sidemissions most of the informants/eavesdropped/pickpocketed give you more info on the target and his associates but you don't get anything out of it, no equipment, no different routes, keys, items, NOTHIN'.
after I forced myself to forget any allusions of "stealth" in assassins creed I had fun with it as a "stab and slash" platformer. I just used all the "blending" stuff to get to my target without having to fight 100 guards BEFORE, but when I killed my target (except some pretty bad missions at the end) I could run away or just stand there and kill a few dozen. the repetition mostly killed it for me too, or better: the lack of options and unsatisfying way of not concluding the story (and some bad wanna-be shakespearian monologs), and many bad design-decisions that just weighted more and more after each mission. and after you learn the counterkill abilities (after 3 targets) you are pretty unkillable and unchallenged.

That's a rather poor outlook.

I enjoy lots of games. I even enjoyed TDS and BS to a point but that doesn't mean I should forgive their failures.
