I took three attempts to complete AC1 (lost interest for some reason first two times), then played it right the third time and was obviously in the mood for it as I loved it. Already had the second game from a sale when it was £3 or something ridiculous so played it right after and loved that even more. That's when I foolishly bought both Brotherhood and Revelations, I then pre-ordered III (don't worry, I've since learned my lesson about ever pre-ordering), thinking I'd play them right through. I got burned out on Brotherhood about 2/3 the way through and now have 2 more games afterwards to get through if I'm to make a dent in my buyer's remorse.
My advice to anyone who owns more than 3 of the games would be to space out playing them as much as possible.
So yes, exhibit A indeed.

AC3. I just got to the proper main character. Time played 6:32:47.

Findin' treasures, and shootin' at boats. Lookin' good! :)

Looks like they're struggling to justify the variation in theme and gameplay with the series' main motifs. Watching someone in assassin's garb dig up treasure and synchronise off the end of an island tree branch is endearingly ludicrous, though I doubt that's what Ubi were going for.

That looks like fun actually! I like the setting and the sailing business.
I never finished AC1 though, and I decided to before I saw this trailer but I can't find the disk!

Yeah I'm with you on that one. I guess the getup felt more or less natural in the first game, but as the series progresses it's starting to stand out more and more. Isn't the whole point of being an assassin that you should be able to blend in with your surroundings? So why doesn't the guy in the new game just dress like a goddamn pirate? Or privateer, whatever. Anything but that dumbass suit. Actually, if Ubi decided to just take the AC3 gameplay and turn it into a game about pirates and skip the AC mythology altogether I'd be more than fine with that. Can't even remember how AC3 ended. Something about aliens, I think? Not going to spoilertag that because it's too stupid to even bother covering up.

The first one was the only one where the alternate history actually made any kind of sense too, what with the Crusades, Templars, and Hashashins. I have a hard time seeing how there's any sort of connection between a 12th century assassin and a half native American dude living in the US in the 18th century. If they had just made a trilogy of stealth games about an assassin living in 12th century Palestine it probably would have been a million times more interesting.

Well, suspension of disbelief or no, that looks great to me.

Played the first one and absolutely loved it, played the 2nd one and loved that as well... Then Brotherhood came. Wait a sec, I thought this was supposed to be a trilogy? Looked like they were trying to expand on the story to artificially lengthen the series and I just wasn't feeling that. So I passed on that deciding that maybe I'd pick up 3 next... but Revelations came. I knew then and there the series was done for. It seemed like tired old gameplay with an ever more convoluted storyline and that was not going to do it for me. I barely even looked at 3 and actually found it rather amusing when it turned out so bad. The games lost the charm they once had and that sucks. This series will forever remain unfinished for me.

This right here. I think what made the first games so good was how simple they were. The atmosphere was realistic and believable. It was nice to just wander about and experience things without having a crazy plot shoved down your throat. Now the later games have fallen prey to a symptom of all bad sequels, both in movies and games alike. That symptom is that they try way too hard to make everything bigger than life. They try to go over the top and the stories get more convoluted, the plot points become way more ridiculous, and it's just off-putting. When something becomes too involved and crazy it stops being believable and thus fun for me. I really wish this series had just stuck to the original trilogy format they had planned. Instead they completely ruined a good thing. :(

Call me shallow, but I just like the gameplay and settings. I don't really care for the story of 99% of games because it always has and continues to be inferior to other media for story-telling. If I want story, I'll read a book. For games, I just want to lose myself in an alternate reality for a bit. AssCreed games have done that for me, though I do admit they have over-used the formula. That said, this has made me want to fire up Brotherhood again and finish it.
