I only try to give an opinion based on Hitman (a game with the same premise of taking a life´s target with skill) and three people troll on me in a personal level ? This forum used to be polite and constructive.
No seriously, what is it ? Lack of cofee today ?
Because this is just a gaming forum, CHILL OUT !

Of course its not based on Thief.
What some people are noting is that it has similiar gameplay elements, especially centered around the stealth aspects.

i think the stealth game field has diversified enough that we don't have to say it's like thief just because it has stealth.

It's actually lack of you understanding day - on 2 levels.
Level 1: Hitman's lack of jump button has no bearing on Assassins Creed's lack of same button since Assassins Creed is being marketed partly on the basis of the agility/free-running aspect of it and Hitman was not. That they are both about assassins is a by the by.
Level 2: There is no personal "troll", just a realisation that you have failed to grasp the first issue.
I, and no-one else, made it personal because I identify you as one of the few people on this forum that would make such a mistake. Perhaps I'm wrong but next time you make a basic logic error I'll tell you - I've neglected to do so thus far despite observing similar patterns.

i must admit, i hoped it to be more like thief where you didn't need nanosecond precision timing with the jump button and that it would lay more emphasis on the story, moral ambiguity of the hero, atmosphere and provided the means to looting, stealing, sidemissions and of course the myriad of stealth mechanics I loved about thief (light,sound,weight,physics,distraction,etc...).
the trailers are still storyheavy and there seems to be some free-roaming-steeling going on but I think it will be more about action and running around and getting all the "flags" or stuff.
since the pc version is due in 2008 I can wait for some spoilerfree reviews and then decide. but it's on my "watch-out" list :)

Subjective, if you think my opinion is wrong then fine, say it.
But say it in a polite and constructive manner.
Implying that I´m stupid and that I lack logic is an agressive and abusive behavior.
And to keep on topic...
Yes, IMHO Hitman is close to Assassin´s Creed. They both have centered their gameplay in open sneaking, witch is sneaking in open sight instead of shadows. Both relies on walking towards your target without being suspicious to any civilian or guard. Of course there are some diffs, Hitman focus more on disguises.

It's entirely possible for the game to be absolutely awesome without a jump button. Maybe there's so much going on that they don't need one. Maybe the larger picture is interesting enough that a jump button would just get in the way.
Or maybe not. But at least let's approach this with an open mind.
Civilization had no jump button. Duh.
