Technically I would say that PoP didn't have a jump button either, it had a context sensitive button that had you jumping when appropriate. And its timing was heavily weighted towards letting the player get away with sloppy timing.
I'm a little torn about the way the system is supposedly implemented, but having seen it at PAX, I think it's ok. The weight is towards freedom, letting you go anywhere. They've automated the individual parts of it some, so yeah as you're jumping from beam to beam or building to building I don't think you're having to hit a button in perfect timing, but I gotta trust that that system was arrived at after playtesting the other way, and seeing how frustrating it is. How often would you do some cool parkour leaps across some narrow beams if it meant some split second precision and more than likely screwing up and failing because of it? I certainly don't want it to be so automatic that it feels like I'm not doing anything, but I can definitely understand the idea that if it requires too much precision player input it feels a lot less like you are controlling some acrobatic master assassin with unlimited freedom of his environment, because a lot of movement will just be too frustrating to be able to rely on consistantly. We'll have to wait and see what that balance they've struck is, but I definitely don't think that "no jump button" implies a write-off anymore than "there is a jump button" suggests that we're on the right track.

Hey man, sorry. Unlike how Subjective took my post, I wasn't actually intending to attack you personally

I, and no-one else, made it personal
Reading lessons now only £2 since high demand has driven costs down.
Gambit - I don't see what "social stealth" has to do with it, that's the stealth part of the game. Are you seriously telling us that you do not see that as separate from the acrobatics bit of the AC?

Chill out dude, it's only Gambit. And Gambit is... well, read his other posts.
Then what the fuck was this butting-in "chill out dude don't attack the guy" post? In fact, don't bother answering. Please.

Out of curiosity...Scots do you have a 360 or just a gaming PC?

For your comprehension: personal
attack != making a comment based on something that a specific person has said.
Also why don't you quit mis-quoting me. I never said what you said I did. Where is the word "attack" in my post? Nowhere. I wish I didn't have to dissect everything for you everytime you take what I say in some warped Scots way.

Isn't ThiefGen supposed to keep these people busy for a while?
Edit: OK, looking at the verbal explosion on the rest of the threads, this has to be some kind of ELIZAbot or spambot, surely?
Edit edit: OK, darktarkin doesn't live here any more. Just let it be known that I wasn't talking about SE or Scots.

Darktarkin, get out!

Gaming PC. A little bit behind the curve processor/RAM wise but still very capable.
And I said DON'T ANSWER. PLEASE.

(

(
http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/assassinscreed/review.html?sid=6182795) Gamespot gave it a 90
It's also worth noting that Tycho from Penny-Arcade, who usually has game opinions I trust had a kinda cryptic "this game is amazing" type comment.
I'd say it's pretty far from clear cut. Interestingly I read both the IGN and the Gamespot one, and it's certainly not a case of one person thought certain things were more important than the other. Like with a lot of reviews that disagree in that way, you'll see some flaw that both recognize but one reviewer thinks it's a bigger deal breaker than another. This is a case of people disagreeing about fundamental things, IGN said it had bad sound and a bad story. Gamespot gave it awards for outstanding achievment in both those things... soo?
The metacritic score is a still very positive 84, and even the worst reviews hover around mid-seventies, which I can generally have a good time with depending on the game. I guess it's a case of finding reviewers (not sites) that generally fit your opinions and trusting them. I mean how do you parse both "this game as a terrible story" and "this game has an amazing story?" Problems!
I've pre-ordered it, I'm pretty confidant about this one, I'll let you guys know.
