that pathetic disclaimer that may as well read "please don't bomb us"
Wait, what's this now?

Instead of the normal "Online play may change the game's rating" or "Warning: Blah Blah Epilepsy Flashing Lights Seizures" stuff before the game loads, there's a thing saying that the development team consists of people of all ethnic backgrounds and religions. It's kinda sad, really, and comes off as the video-game-disclaimer version of "some of my best friends are black!"

It really makes you wonder why on earth they felt they had to add that disclaimer. There really isn't much in the game that would be considered offensive, it's actually pretty bland. The bad guys come from both the Muslim and Christian camps. There are movies that put a heavier spin on that subject matter that don't require any such disclaimer, so why does a videogame need it?

Because videogames are mature enough to be politically correct! :cheeky:

playin on pc now. after the initial rush of climbing and killin dozens of citizens this game gets so old and boring. concerning the cities they just put different filters on it to distinguish them from each other and after climbing a few rooftops they always feel the same (some landmark buildings withholding). side-mission are boring as hell: they got millions of dollars and they can't make at least a few different models/speeches for the "save citizen" ?
the thing with this game is this (the juvenile version)
a) the story sucks, the real world story sucks even more. your character
is the biggest dick there is and works for the biggest dicks and is captured
by big dicks as well. they dick around all day.
b) side-missions apart from information/pickpocket/eavesdrop don't have anything to do with the story and are repetetive and boring (sittin on a bench)
c) this is NO stealth game
d) killing EVERYONE is a viable tactic in this game
e) cool-down mechanic for crowd AI is stupid
f) assassinations are handled badly:
- you have to get there stealthy, that's good
- once you are there you can't climb around to get to a good position
but have to wait for the cutscene to end
- after getting your kill (stealthy or not) you have to sit through ANOTHER cutscene even lengthier as this one and then get immediately thrown back in and get attacked instantly (no matter if you killed stealthy or not),
this breaks the tensions EVERY time
g) collecting flags ? WTF ?????
and so on....
instead of going for story or going for arcade only they took Hitman/Thief and took away all that was good from it (stealth, mini-story side missions, faction-standing, disguise).
don't get me wrong, climbing around is breathtaking but it's also very, very easy and no accomplishment, even because most of the enemies can follow you around everywhere and are so easy to kill.
when a fight mechanic is advertised as being realistic and then I find myself surrounded ingame with 16 enemies and can kill them pretty easily with a little patience something's wrong.
so, yeah, it's a tech demo. if I wanna play a good one, i play crysis. don't spend much money on it. wait for bargain bin.
nothing realy changed from the xbox-version, although keyboard controls are OK

Heh yes I forgot about that. I disliked Acre because it was almost as grey as CoD4, whereas Jerusalem and Damas were more enjoyable. Not exactly subtle.

it is fun.
but one city and you've done it all. doing it 9 times (9 targets) gets old. you see, one could argue that other games similar to this or the inspiration for AC have the same repetetive missions if you look at them a little better:
get item a or information b
go to point c
kill person d
and so on but once you tie them in with the story and have good characters present them to you with differing solutions maybe they suddenly don't feel repetetive at all. in AC they stripped down everything and made them only the most basic things like the "save citizen". the fights play out differently because of your weapon choice, if you stand your ground or hop around......but that just doesn't cut it for me.
and getting put back into the "future" world and having there to endure even more speeches and the most basic interaction possibilities there with your environment make it even more tedious.
they certainly have something going on in the story but I must say, I don't like either Altair nor Desmond or his employers/captors.
i really had high hopes for this game. I am even sure that I saw a gameplay presentation during alpha where you COULD go up, kill someone and disappear into the crowd with no explaining cutscene inbetween and no 10minutes sword slaughter afterwards.

Finished this one a couple of weeks ago and I really really enjoyed it. Pretty much as far as I can see this game boiled down to what you were expecting of it. Having dodged pretty much all the hype, thanks to patchy internet access I went in expecting amazing graphics and being able to do some cool shit. Which I did. The level of detail that went into crafting the architechture of this game really blew me away.
And this is where I argue that it doesn't get really that old, because I was always looking forward to getting a new chunk of the map each time I went back to a city. The exploration elements of this game were honestly fun. Come on you have to admit that moments like when you climbed the huge fuck off cathedral in Acre were pretty god damn awesome.
As far as the stealth assasinations, I found that, just as it was in Thief, a lot of patience and thinking did actually provide me with some properly sneaky kills, as in, he didn't see me coming, and I got all the way to the beaureau without getting caught. The dude out on the boat in Acre strikes me as a particularily good example.
But trying to find a hiding spot when you have like 30 guards chasing you is pretty damn cool as well, in my books, especially when you manage to dive into one of those rooftop gardens, and the roofs are just teeming with the bastards.
