Australia, Your Government Hates You: L4D2 Refused Classification - by june gloom

I didn't think anywhere could be as backwards as the UK.
How wrong I was.

I think it varies from state to state but, yeah, mostly the Refused Classification = Refused Sale not Refused Posession loophole seems to have effectively been closed.
The annoying part is we could have fixed this a few times by now. Any PR battle is a bitch as all Atkinson has to do is paint gamers as psychopaths for wanting to play this stuff at all by providing lurid descriptions, and then produce a lot of angry emails to support his case. He's a punchably smug bastard about it all as well.

He's a long standing candidate in a very safe Labor (embarassingly enough) seat in South Australia.

He's not leaving any time soon. Easier ways to get rid of him are an entire change of government in SA (which puts the Libs in and that's like cutting off your nose to spite your face) or he steps down as Attourney General.
Liberal aren't actually that far away from cracking SA, people are incredibly pissed down here about the water situation, so that may happen. Pretty much the only thing I disagree with in this whole thread is people upset about the thought of Second Life being banned. Although it seems to make for a fairly interesting if bizarre social experiment at times, it also seems to be a filter feeder for the lowest common denominator/sexual deviants of the internet.

I hear that sharp edged knives are the knives of choice for the lowest common denominator knife killer. Better ban them.

Been there, done that.

The most recent poll I found had the encumbents pretty far ahead, but that was six months ago. The leadership change may have settled a bit by now.
This and the water business illustrate just how our federalism is more a nuisance than good for anyone most of the time. I'm not all that sure getting rid of it is a great idea, but something sure don't work.

It's not that I was upset, more that if that were to be banned then there is no stopping them. Second Life is like a childs toy compared to the rest. Though it is probably another case of "OMG IT HAS SEX IN IT!! EVIL!!".

Would be more of an outcry if they banned wow. But that`ll never happen.

Don't be so sure. All it takes is for someone to find that "The Internet is For Porn" video and all hell will break loose.

I'd love that, just for the reaction.
I think that despite the lack of WoW data on the internet the net would still melt down due to the insane wailing and gnashing of teeth that would ensue.

A conversation between Gabe Newell and the Australian Classification Board..
Gabe: So, guys, I hear you're boycotting Left 4 Dead 2?
Board: Not so much boycotting as refusing it classification..
Gabe: Hey I hear you're free next weekend. May I perhaps buy you plane tickets...?
Anyway, this is a shame. I'll soon be going back to AUS, and while I couldn't give a proverbial flying f*** about L4D, it doesn't bode well for other games I might be interested in. Or the media in general.
