Yeah, I think it deserves it's own thread. Screw megathreads.

So, I went to see this because I thought it deserved a Big Screen viewing. It was fun. A popcorn flick if ever there was one. A fair few laughs and it wasn't as predictable as it could have been.
It doesn't hold up to Ironman 1 or the Batman reboots, which just seem so much more realistic (Ironman less so) and I guess that's one of my main issues with it. I know there are Gods and aliens in it but there just seems to be an inconsistency in the amount of power that many of the main characters have. It was weird and somewhat spoiled the suspension of disbelief for me.
Still worth a watch though (much more so than Ironman 2 or Thor imho).
Haaaaving said all that - the 3 trailers were Prometheus, Batman 3 and The Hobbit, all of which I want to see more than I did The Avengers. In fact I think Prometheus is my most eagerly anticipated film since... I don't know when. And yes, we're going in Nostromo crew cosplay.

We may see it this weekend. I couldn't stomach trying to go on opening weekend. I'd rather stick with this nuthaus than the movie theater. I really enjoyed Thor. Question, would you say there was too many cooks stirring the pot plot? Almost sounds like it. Iron Man 2 I agree, it wasn't as good as the first.

I feel like this movie reminded me that I'm getting old. I'm like Stan Marsh. Other than the Tony Stark/Iron Man bits in the movie - and even then some of those - I was trying to hold back groans and eye rolls. I thought it was 2 hours of exhaustingly overused Hollywood schtick.
I went with a crowd of a dozen friends though. They all loved it and thought it was the awesomest thing ever. So maybe I've just turned into that jaded old man.

I'm too lazy to look what are the ratings? Given what you two just said. Hmmmm. Typical hollywood hype? Greeeeat. :|

As a comic book reader and movie goer, I thoroughly enjoyed Avengers. Yes, it follows a lot of the usual Hollywood tropes, but mostly does it quite well and fine tuned. Yes, Avs, I love you, but you are old and jaded (;)).
BA - Go and watch it, you silly woman! :D
Srsly, fs...you guys, sometimes....gah.

I loved it. All characters had their opportunity to shine and a witty, funny script made the whole SFX package a joy.
I really missed Whedon's writing style, it really delivers and helps remind us not to take everything too seriously.
Overall a very successful opus. I'll probably get the BR if they pack enough behind-the-scenes goodies on it :)

Oh Duckie, I plan on seeing it, don't worry about that! Maybe tomorrow.

Like I grumbled in the other thread, the opening sequence and the post-credits are for geeks only really - they suck for non-comic-nerds and people who didn't see Thor or know what any of these stupid aliens are about - and by the end of the movie I can't help but think that Black Widow and Hakweye are utterly boring characters jammed into the mix with a whole bunch of awesome types.
Great popcorn flick for about 2hrs in the middle though. Hulk was used perfectly and got the big laughs (smacking Thor randomly, swinging Loki around like a sack of potatoes).

There's another post-credits scene in the US release that has nothing to do with villain reveals only comic book geeks can appreciate. Apparently it will answer all your questions about what happens when The Avengers go to eat Shawarma. Whether that's worth sitting through an eon of effects credits, well I wouldn't know. I don't live in the US.
The start was a little shaky, but again, I can't get behind the Hawkeye/Black Widow complaints. Having more normal characters around that are in way over their heads helps ground the action.
