Not sure if this was posted before here. I just found (
http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Become_Ethereal) this, it seems our Azaran is mentioned in Skyrim on one of the word walls, thought it was neat:

The "Azaran the Cruel" mentioned on the third Word Wall is very likely a reference to a necromancer of the same name in Thief II: The Metal Age. )
I think I'll go back to that wall when I get home, see if there's anything else interesting there ;)

It probably is a reference considering the word of Thief in the Dragon Language is "TAFIIR"

In case anyone out there is unaware, Emil Pagliarulo, who worked on Thief 2 and specifically the Life of the Party mission where Azaran is prominently mentioned, now works at Bethesda on the Elder Scroll games (including Skryim). So there's your connection.
