I just upgraded my graphics card to a Geforce 6800 Ultra. What I did not expect was the change when I played thief. As you can see the sky (and quite a few objects) does not render correctly.
Has anyone ever come across this before? Know a solution? Thanks!

I did not change drivers (still at 71.89), and my old card was a Geforce 4200Ti. It never had this problem.

It's a known issue with the GF6x00 series, and unfortunately as far as I know nobody has found a solution for it yet.

Just don't look up!

I can't really ignore it, especially when I'm working on the sky and similar things for a FM. How can I make a propper sky when I can't see the result?
I know, blind artists are sometimes great, but most of the time those who can see do a whole lot better! :D

That's not all - welcome to the world of bugged-up transparency effects, mostly noticiable when using coronas or objects implementing textures with TGA transparency.

Then maybe you could use your old card just to make sky?
Everytime I see bad or starless sky (stars aren't visible in combination with clouds on geforce) in FM, I cannot help but think the author has newer Geforce and doesn't add stars just because he/she can't see any difference :)

The only solution is to get ATI card (and use Omega drivers in order to have proper fog). :(

So I take it your old card was AGP. If this is the case, get a crappy old PCI card from '00 that'll run Thief normally and set it as the display device while playing thief. You should be able to get an old card pretty cheap, especially a PCI one (not PCI-Express: just clarifying that in case you didn't know the difference, which is unlikely since you just upgraded your card). You'll probably have to manually switch which card you want to use in control panel or display properties.
EDIT: This is all just if there is no alternative easier solution.

First, after just getting this card, I'm not really able to get another one. Besides, I've heard that ATI doesn't do 3d (real 3d, as in not on a 2d screen) very well, and I didn't want to risk it. Playing games in 2d just seems so bland!
The fan on the old card just died, which is why I was upgrading (actually I was going to upgrade anyway, but that was a good reason to do so).
I'll see if I can somehow get the fan fixed or replaced. Then I can use it with another computer that is a little slower than the one I usually use (read P3 1GHz, 256MB RAM) and play thief on that instead. It should only be a little jerky in places, still playable.
Maybe one day this problem will go away and I'll be able to play it on the same computer as everything else. Or maybe by then computers will be able to do everything Thief needs in software mode!
Thankyou all for your help. I really appreciate it. :hugs:
