(sorry if i am posting in the wrong place, i believe there is a newbies thread but can't find it, if so could someone point it out to me, and a moderator move this to the correct thread)
I am considering taking on a new project, to produce a 'ricebug' style set of walkthroughs / mini-walks for all the T!/TG missions (its not as big as you may think 25 have w/t's already and many are demo's so have no need for a w/t), but if i am to do this project to a high enough standard i will need to use Dromed for a number of things
1. to find missing loot....i have learnt how to generate a report, however when i try to find an object by typing in 'find_obj 01' the name of the object appears next to the command box with all of its properties, and the little dot appears in the 3 graphics boxes and when i zoom in the 3 graphic boxes zoom in, but in the top left box even when i have switched 'solid world' all i ever see is the opening screenshot at the very start of the mission, which never changes....i have spoken to a few people who use T2 Dromed but i understand TG Dromed is slightly different,so i'm guessing to get that box working i need to do something else..but what ?
2. is there anyway i can find out through Dromed as to which actions trigger new objectives, and which action complete objectives ? i played Garrett's Revenge over the weekend, and according to the forum and intrface/miss15/eng/goals there is an objective to find out who spilled the beans on Cutty, and another to kill the person who did this evil deed once you have found who did it...but for all my scouring of the map the first objective never happened thus neither did the 2nd
3. can i find 'secrets/scrolls and books through Dromed ?
i know all these are very basic questions, but most tutorials are aimed at T2 Dromed, and with the greatest respect i have no desire to learn how to make a mission (well not at the moment) and there is a whole ocean of information out there but going through it all just to find the answers to 3 or 4 Qs seems to me a rather ominous task
if anyone experienced in T1/TG Dromed could answer these Qs directly or point me to specifically related tutorial/threads/FAQ's i would very very grateful
Thanking you in advance

1. Typing cam_to_brush in the info box should teleport you to the object in some of the windows even if you can't for some reason move in the 3D window for whatever reason. (This is F8 in newer dromeds.) Your inability to move the 3D window is not a synch/asynch issue is it? You can try right clicking in one of the other windows and you'll see a synch all / asynch all option you can choose to try and get the windows to line up.
2. Yes and no to this one, but it certainly gets easier depending on your skill with dromed. The initial method to try is to open Editors: Mission_Quest_Data, and scroll down to the goal_target section and each goal might have an object number there associated with it. These goals also relate to the various objectives in the goals.str file. So for instance, goal_target_1 corresponds to the text_1 and fiction_1 objective, i.e. this controls when the "Find information on who, grassed, set up, framed, Cutty" objective is completed. For goal_target_8, which is the "Kill the innkeeper of the Slaughtered Crayman Inn," objective, it is completed by object 713, which is an AI in the world. Note that there is no other indication through the Properties or Links of this AI that will tell you that killing him will complete that objective, and in all other regards he appears to work exactly the same as any other typical AI.
This mission_quest_data example works best when dealing with fairly simple goals set in dromed, i.e. when needing to enter a specific room, when killing an AI or when stealing an object.
For something just a little more advanced, from playing the mission you'll have noticed that objective_1 (which again is the "Find information on who, grassed, set up, framed, Cutty" objective) doesn't even appear until goal_target_0 is found and completed. So notice that the goal_target_0 (the "Find the room above the arches, and read the Keeper's scroll") objective is 1516, and when you click the Links button of that object, it is linked to an object named QuestChanger 1, the Properties of which can be seen to cause the framed objective to appear (i.e. =1:goal_visible_1) in the player's list of objectives. It's a little confusing at first, but the goal_visible_1 number again relates back to the text_1 objective in the goals.str file. Notice also the Properties of object 1516 (a Papyrus) show that it corresponds to keeper01.str in the books folder.
More difficult objectives can be basically impossible to understand depending on how the author set it up, but I'd guess almost all of those early Thief Gold missions are fairly simply scripted.
3. Yes. It certainly helps though if you know the general location of the thing you are searching for. You might also want to grab (
http://www.alex-c.at/quant/thief/) Dromaddon. It helps to find the objects you might need. To open a mission with it, select the "Load from Mission File" option under File. Often times important objects are named different than non-important objects of the same type, which helps in finding them quickly. Knowing the general shape of things you're looking for in Dromed can also help in quickly finding them amongst other objects.
I have a question myself, if you're just using dromed in this case to fiddle around with pre-existing missions, why not load the mission with NewDark and save yourself a ton of trouble? As long as you don't save anything, it doesn't matter at all what editor you use, so why not use the editor that makes it easiest for you to do what you need? In this case, it'd be best to have a separate Thief Gold install and Thief 2 install, but have NewDark in both of them, and when you want to fiddle with a Thief Gold mission, use the FMSel in your Thief Gold install. In NewDark you can also find ways to highlight the object types you may be looking for, and other very useful things.

Thank you Xorak.....i got advise from a no of people i PM'd and they all told me to use both the F3 and F8 buttons....that did not work.....until i was advised yesterday that i needed to configure them in a cfg file, could you or anyone else point me in the right direction so i can do this please, or will this happen automatically if i install a no of custom menus ie komags custom menu, i haven't installed any patches yet as i assumed i didn't need to unless i intended to make a mission.....:laff:
so if it would help me in my project could you advise me which tools/patches i need to install, the fewer the better, as as before i have no intention of making a mission, just need the option of searching for a few thing
also been advised to install 'DromEd toolkit '....where would i find that ?
Thanking you all inadvance :D

The 'Dromed toolkit' would be the (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141708&highlight=dromed+basic) DromED Basic Toolkit.
It unifies the commands and menues for both T1 and T2 and adds a bunch of functionality.
If I am not mistaken, both TFix and Tafferpatcher will install it, if you allow them to install DromED.
If you did install DromED manually then you either need to figure out how to get the Basic Toolkit integrated, or uninstall DromED and allow these tools to install it for you.

I have no idea what addons work with TG and what each addon adds, but if you want to create a hotkey then open default.bnd, and in the first category under 'unshifted' you'd enter (just like how all the other lines are done): edit bind F8 "cam_to_brush", to connect the function to F8 (don't use tab in the file). The find_obj command needs a variable object number to be set with it, so it's pointless to assign it to a key by itself, but in newer dromeds all this is done for you.

@ gnartsch
i did find the tool kit myself, but as there are 2 available, thank you for pointing me to the right one.....my F8 button works now :thumb:
@ Xorak...again with tool kit installed i can now move around in solid world :D
also re objectives/completions of objectives, brilliant advise and nice a simple :D, only thing is in my copy of Garretts revenge when searching Editors: Mission_Quest_Data, goal target 0, 1 & 2 do not exist at all, nor does goal target 8, but when i searched for goal_target_0 and goal_target_1 the world view took me to the same scroll, when kind of confirms to me what i suspected, that in my copy of Garretts revenge these objectives do not exist, so will say so accordingly in my mini-walks
onwards with my project :D
again thank you all for your help
Edit...have just found on Darkfate there are 2 different Garrett's Revenge available...G/R and G/Rgold, and it is only in Gold that the extra objectives are available.....
Bleeding authors who keep updating their missions, don't half make my life difficult....stop it :joke:

Hmmmm ... maybe ... and just maybe ...
this is one of the occasions where one can see the differences in the way objectives are (or can be) handled slightly differently in T1 compared to TG (from what I believe to know/have heard).
Do both versions have the same objectives ?
And T2 can be a bit yet quite a bit different.
