Anim8or is great for creating objects, but it will only accept .gif, jpg, and bmp file types. So what if you want to change them to .png?
And what if you have a ton of them to change? Here's how...
First of all, you need (
http://www.editpadlite.com/)
EditPad Lite, a free text editor that saves "clean" text files. It also lets you to find and replace words within
multiple files with one click.
Your obj/txt16 folder should have the .png files already in place. Have duplicate textures in the .gif format in whatever work directory you use for Anim8or.
1. Export your objects in Anim8or in the .3DS format and run the N3ds2e.exe on them. (I use a .bat file to automate this.)
2. Select all of the .E files, and load them into EditPad Lite.

4. Go to the
Search menu and select
Replace All.
Voila! All of your .E files are changed.
5. Run the .E files through the BSP process as normal and toss the .BIN files into your Thief 2 obj directory.
This also works with TGA files. EditPad's ability to find and replace data in multiple files is also handy when you want to change the transparency data, for example, in a bunch of objects in one shot.

Notepad++ will also do global replacement in all open files.
And I hate to tell you this, Terry, but you don't need to update the .bin or .e files. If you have a PNG of the same name as the original GIF or PCX that's specified in the .bin file, it will get loaded by NewDark even if the GIF or PCX is available due to the hierarchical way that NewDark looks for textures. So even if you're replacing a texture that's in the original LGS CRF archive, it will work.

You have discovered a holy grail: the file extension in the bin file does not matter! What could be better than that?

So who has been lighting the grail-shaped beacon, this time?
