(why does a swarm of bats rise out of every guy I knock out?)
Because tweety birds flying around their heads would just be
silly.
Okay, so it's actually so there's a clear indicator to differentiate an unconscious guy from one that's only been knocked down. I don't really mind obviously gamey stuff like that as long as it serves a purpose.
As far as the demo itself goes: Good stuff. I particularly liked the little touches, like the henchman I'd strung up from his ankles trying to talk his buddies into cutting him down.

the overabundance of gargoyles and non-interactive lights are a missed opportunity. but then, there are a 100 other things I would have done different, that's why I said "it's too arcadey for me" but that doesn't make it a potentially bad game. on the contrary, my first impression is a good one but not one I would spend full price for. let's hope some enemies get nightvision, so gargoyle-batsy-moves do not stay that powerful.

It looks like it would be fun, but the whole ten minutes I stomached were ruined by the controls. I didn't know it was a fucking crime to not use an XBOX controller for a PC game these days.
I guess I could always just play with the keyboard and the mouse, but still. The movement with the analog stick was inverted, making navigation extremely hard and I had to use my awesome power of guessing to figure out what the "A, B, Y, X" etc functions were supposed to be in my gamepad.
I know it seems petty of me to get hung up on this, but it really annoys me and it pretty much destroyed whatever fun had to be had in that demo. What, Microsoft isn't content with monopolizing the operating system the vast majority of games run on, now they have to monopolize everything PC?
At least the combat system is on autopilot. Mix up the attacks and you don't even need to move toward your enemy, the game will do it for you.

@Iroquois
A lot of modern games, especially GfW branded console ports, only support the newet Xinput API rather than the legacy Dinput that's been around since at least Win95. You do still get publishers who support both APIs, I think that EA and Ubisoft are amongst them.
The two APIs are compatible with each other, but not 100%. I.e. A X360 pad will work with an older game, but you won't get vibrations and the triggers might get treated as analogue stick axes rather than as analogue buttons.
Your device needs to have drivers with Xinput support. There are 3rd party manufacturers that do support the API, such as Logitech and XFX.
The best workaround that I know of is to use a program like Xpadder or Pinnacle Profiler to map kb+m functions to a gamepad.

I think the little bat swarms also represent the XP flowing into you
yeah, it's kind of weird
I agree that if the full game is just 'this demo times 50' then it could get pretty samey (although much as I never got tired of kicking nubs in Dark Messiah, I don't think I'll easily tire of swooping down and terrorising people as Batman.) We know that the combat gets a bit more complex - so hopefully some of the stealth aspects will too

A demo good grief! Even on PSN yurp, amazing.

Or I can always just not buy the game, or buy it for the PS3, adding my oh-so-important little nail in PC Gaming's coffin, since developers don't seem to give two shits about the medium anymore, as long as Microsoft can still push their fratboy douchebaggery system on the market, before the inevitable fall, when they'll remember the only reason they were in this market in the first place was the goddamn PC gaming!
GAH.
Regardless, thanks for the tip. I'll have a look if I ever care to give a rat's ass about this or any other game on the PC.

PS3 version is a bit choppy, needs some tweaking. Fun demo overall, instant buy when it's out.

Choppy? That's strange. It was smooth as butter on mine.

Maybe it's because I am playing on a standard tv, sure it will be sorted out, no biggie.
