Well, since the rest of the world doesn't work like that (thank god), that's not terribly tempting to people elsewhere. Me, I'm waiting for the PC version to arrive because it's inevitably going to cost me ~15-20 USD thanks to local market subsidies.
Also, Uncharted 3 is going to look sweet on my new TV. I'm going all in for a collector's ed on that one, so AC is gonna have to wait.

Australia is no different. Utter rip off local prices for games.
These days it's quite common for clued consumers in Oceania to buy games digitally (well, when they aren't suffering from jacked up regional pricing on Steam at least) or import from the UK (particularly console titles).

What about import fees? If you're in Canada and you try to buy stuff cheaper from the states/UK/wherever, you have to pay huge fees to receive your package (or, even worse, get huge surprise Customs bills in the mail a month later).

In NZ we only get slapped with custom fees/sales tax for packages worth something like $200 or over. I forget the exact figure, but it's reasonable high. (Unlike the UK where they get slapped with VAT for import goods worth a measly ~£18.)

Regional pricing strikes again. Today they jacked up the price of Arkham City on Steam in Oceania with a 100% mark up. Instead of $50 USD, it's now $100. No more pre-order/customer loyalty discounts either.
EDIT:- Well I was wrong about us not getting the pre-order (10%) and loyalty discounts (20%). But still $100 USD discounted to 80-90 USD is still a ridiculous inflation.

That's just fucking mental.

steam is racist to kiwis and dingos obv.

When L.A. Noire: Complete Edition appeared on Steam for pre-order it was only $45 USD for a single day before being jacked up to 81 USD for Oceania. Bloody ridiculous.
Batman jumping in price lead me to impulse pre-ordering MW3 on Steam while it's still $60 USD (converts to ~$75 NZD, which is a good price considering that the game has "ActiBlizzard tax" on top of the usual local high prices, thus costing ~$120 NZD on PC domestically.) I was very much on the fence with that game and I'm not happy about having my hand forced so soon. That was the best deal available, all the importers and reputable CD key e-tailers were selling it for a comparable ~$70-75, but the Steam shop release comes with CoD4 for free.
