Well, the date has changed again and the game officially comes out tomorrow - and there's no preload for us! Yay for trying to download 17gb on launch day on a crap connection! Maybe by the time I finish, they'll have released a patch!

DLing now.
This is a big download it seems and I'm going away for the weekend.
Hmmm. Timed Shutdown it is then. See you next week Batman.

You turn your PC off? Doesn't it actually take more power to spin everything up then it does to just leave it idle for a week with the monitor off?

Most larger companies can actually save a decent amount of money by turning off all computers that aren't in active use when people leave work. Now, if we're only talking about 1-2 hours, then you're probably right. But a computer left running overnight will use more power than one you turn off when you leave it for more than 8 hours, and a gaming rig is unlikely to use less power (even in idle mode) than the average workspace computer.

DLing on Friday. Away til Sunday evening. Leaving it on is surely going to use more power.

well, it arrived, installed and failed.
as already posted all over the internet the dx11 features break the game, making it unplayable due to choppy framerates - and I mean really choppy: while the benchmark says I have an average of 50 and max of 75 fps the minimum is 1 (!) and it happens every few seconds.
turning off all DX11 features makes combat and movement ok but it still lags during cutscenes and camerapans.
technical issues aside that version of the game is even worse in terms of PC "features". They do not even aknowledge that a mouse exists because adjusting the sensitivity is not present in the options. The mouse defaults to smoothing/on and a sense of 30 (!).
Which meant that turning my mouse only a slight degree made a 360 turn in the game. WTF
After fiddling around in the inis I had to make them read-only because the game likes to reset them even if you do not change anything at all in the option menue. That's what you get for a 6 week delay to "polish" the PC experience.
WB acknowledge that there are "issues" with "performance" for a "few" users. Namely all that use DX11, a mode the game settings default to when your PC is new enough.
I would rage more if I would not have Skyrim to play for the next few weeks.

It's still not downloaded! The 4 hours I left before the shutdown only DLed 52% so I'll have to wait until I give my opinion and see if I agree with you mothra.

I can't give any thoughts to the game itself, played only the intro and tried to fix those problems, gave up and returned to my illusion assassin in skyrim. and, yeah, it uses GfWL, so achievement popups you can't disable and restarts due to "new client version available"....sigh
