AC didn't impress me, as expected. The '5 times bigger' is an illusion because it's not 5 times more lengthy, on the contrary - the campaign is shorter. Flying around the city is fun but only for so long. I don't think I will ever replay this game, AA however I'll be gladly replaying some time soon for the second time.

Kinda wish I did. :(
Even getting a new PC might not fix the problem. There are some people out there with i7's, dual high end graphics cards, and 16GB ram who get the stuttering video problem. Just like me, they can play the game fine, but the cutscenes stutter.

Oh Renz, I was just ribbing ya. It's probably something stupid and easily fixed, probably a driver incompatibility or a multi-threading hiccup or summat. Just gotta wait for a patch. Let's play Portal 2 instead! \o/
Oh, right. You didn't get it. Lara Croft, then. I'll be generous - you can take the tits. :D

D'awww, man. You always think of the best stuff.
When I get back later on tonight, we'll play Tits McGillicutty, and the Giant Aztec Guy From The Past.

My TV has a function where it automatcially shuts off after 4 hours of idleness(the channel/volume not being changed, etc.). A session during my second playthrough of Arkham Asylum was the only time I've sat for so long in front of the TV that it actually did shut down. I loved that game, is what I'm saying. And of course I didn't think Arkham City would be able to live up to it. Well, I just finished AC, the storymode at least, aaaand... you know what? It might be even better than Arkham Asylum.
The gameplay, first off, is excellent. They took what they had from AA and added a bunch of stuff, new gadgets, moves, and enemytypes, and introduce them throughout the campaign at a pace that means you don't get overwhelmed by the new additions. Secondly, the story is great, especially towards the end when there's seemingly a new plottwist being unveiled every 15 minutes. If this is truly Mark Hamill's last performance as the Joker it's a great swansong. And his is not the only great character, it feels like most of them get their moment to shine. Batman's parts in Wonder City. Penguin's museum. Strange's speech on the monitor near the end. And, Catwoman's big decision. You never really know with her, if she's in it for herself or if she's prepared to do the right thing when the moment comes. And the choice you had to make as her I felt really brought out what's the most interesting about her character. I liked the gameplay in her sections as well. Nice change of pace from playing as the bat. Though maybe that was largely just because I played it a lot stealthier as her, and tried ghosting my way past baddies instead of confronting them.
I see AC is cheap on Steam right now. I encourage everyone who hasn't played it yet to give it a try, though I don't know if the PC version still suffers from the issues brough up earlier in this thread.
Final verdict: fucking great game!

At about 60% total completion now. Locked up a few more stray villains, got Catwoman's loot back, and found over half of Riddler's secrets. I never bothered trying to find all Riddler's trophies in AA but I'm enjoying the hunt much more in this game mainly because A: there's a mechanic for finding out the general locations of trophies so there's not so much tedious searching every little nook and cranny, and B: finding the trophies unlocks further missions, so you're not just finding them in order to make a number go up to 100.
I also still need to track down the Identity Thief, and find out who the Watcher in the Wings is.

Bought it cheap off Steam and quite agree with your comments - I finished getting the last Riddler trophy an hour ago, and there were still little city details that I noticed only now. The city is great to fly in, certainly will replay this game some time.
If you're still looking for the Identity Thief - look for corpses on the street in the same blocks as the first body was.

Thanks for the tip. I managed to track him down just now. Guessing this guy might be one of the main villains in the next game. And the next game is gonna be Batman: Gotham City isn't it? The stuff that the Watcher in the Wings was talking about leads to me think so. Feels like there's a lot of hints about what's to come next and just a lot of minutiae to speculate over. Like what's up with all the teddybears? And what became of the Black Mask? And Killer Croc? And what's Ivy up to in there?
I can't believe I'm actually tracking down all the Riddler trophies. I haven't tried to get 100% completion in a sandbox game like this since probably Vice City. It takes a rare breed of game to keep you playing it after the storymode is over just because the core gameplay is so damn satisfying you'll accept any pointless trinket-collecting as an incentive to keep playing. :)

I've still got to finish the Catwoman bits, some of the side quests and get all the trophies. Are they really going to do a third one? Without Hamill?
Mr.Duck on 13/5/2012 at 15:41
To close the trilogy? I truly hope so, but yes, I too wish MH would return to voice Joker one more time. :'(
Mebbe he's playing hard to get for a salary increase?
