Good God no, I certainly hope they don't bring Joker back to life for part 3. All the ambivalent feelings AC's ending brought up in me, and eerie sadness of hearing him croon an old 50's pop-song over the closing credits would be lessened. And there's more than enough interesting villains in Gotham to take his place.
And I'm guessing that there will be a part 3. There are certainly hints in the game that there will be. And with a series as commerically and critically successful as this one it's a no-brainer really.

You don't read much comics now, do you henke?* ;)
I mean....keeping the Joker dead?, tsk....you should know better by now. Tsk.
Yes, it would be cool, but.....nah, they won't do it. :D
Though I am worried who they will replace Hamil with :(
OH GOD, WHY!?
PS. The Joker's been dead before and he's come back to life, and seeing how the game takes it's cue from the comics, well...
*Meant in a totally nice way, not being a comic book geek peeing on you or anything. :D

I've read a few of the big ones: The Dark Knight Returns, Year One and Killing Joke. (anyone got recommendations for further Bat-reading?) And yes I know (probably most) comicbook villains and heroes have a tendency of dying and coming back to life every now and again, but that's not very good writing, is it? I hope the games don't copy that particular aspect of the books.
Mr.Duck on 13/5/2012 at 21:13
That depends how the resurrection is handled, it's not bad writing in on itself if handled in a good manner (and if the character is insanely popular it's almodt a given they will come back to life). Though, to be fair, many aren't -that- well handled...heh.
Again, the Arkham games come straight from the comics with some nuances of their own, so expect to see his return whether you like it or not. :)
Send me a message over Fb to reccomend some choice Batreading :)

I hear you henke, but I wouldn't mind soooo much for Batman 3.
I'll tell you what struck me in BAC - how Thiefy I felt. It was the looking down on people after grappling up from some dark alley, and the stealth takedowns (that's how it should be done in T4 btw). I found myself thinking "how is T4 going to top this for exploration, for open-world dark-city-ness?".

A new story DLC, Harley's Revenge, will becoming out with the GOTY Edition on the 29th... $10 on its own... apparently you play as both Batman and Robin and it takes place exclusively in the Industrial District with some new areas, after the city has been evacuated, and will see Batman shut down Arkham City permanently.
Of course, it's only coming out then for PS3 and Xbox... PC Users will have to wait once again.

More than a few. A Death in the Family (Jason Todd gets killed), Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth, The Long Halloween (and its sequel Dark Victory), The Man Who Laughs (and its sequel, Do You Understand These Rights, which span Batman Confidential #22-25 -- the sequel to THAT is "Good Cop Bad Cop" running Batman Confidential #29-30.) You may want to consider "Jazz" as well, a Legends of the Dark Knight mini-series. There's also "Engines," which spans LOTDK #74-75 and is fantastically written and drawn -- a guy who's basically living in some serious existential hell becomes a serial-killing vigilante. There's also Hush, Cataclysm and its sequel No Man's Land, Arkham Asylum: Living Hell, etc.
Avoid Knightfall, though. Batman and Bane squaring off is interesting, but Azrael's run as substitute Batman gives us some of the worst excesses of (
http://www.mediafire.com/?t8c3hbc7r64b49i) 90s comics.
There's plenty more -- some of the very best stories are individual issues or two-parters -- but the list I gave above is a good mix of big titles and smaller stories, nearly all of them more or less set in the first 10 years of Batman's career, before he started getting involved in all that Justice League stuff. And the Outsiders stuff. And punching Guy Gardner.
Speaking of JL (and Guy Gardner,) I do heartily recommend the Giffen run of Justice League International, particularly volume 2 (which spans #8-13.) Very funny at times, which was deliberate to provide a contrast to Marvel Comics trying to be grim and edgy (and failing, 'cuz they're Marvel.)

Thanks for chiming in. :) The Arkham Asylum and Long Halloween ones I've had my eye on, but a whole bunch there I'd never even heard of, will have to investigate. Not interested in whole series though, just books.

Interesting. I'm kinda hoping the next game will have actual Batman & Robin coop. That would be
sweeeeeet.

Since I have a gaming backlog that I will only get through if I have children and delegate via my last will and testament, I think I may hold off on getting this until a PC GOTY comes out, but based on this thread, I'm sold on the game as soon as I have the hours.

Have you read Ennis' run on Punisher Max?
