It's funny with all the remarks about GFWL being so awful, I've only had to actually use it to play a single game. That was Bioshock 2. Having played Fallout 3, never did I see any sign of GFWL being run in the background like Steam with Skyrim. Guess I'm lucky.
When I saw the Batman series on sale with Steam, I did another check for any hard copies for PC available online/locally. I prefer having the DVDs to games, but I may end up going for this sale since I could not find the GOTY editions for both on PC. Tell me if there is someplace besides ebay that I can buy it.

Saves me a few bucks on the Arkham City DLC anyway!

Aw yeah. I knew holding out on the GOtY Edition of Arkham City was a good idea.
It's annoying that I have to reinstall the whole game for it though.

Does this mean my copy of Arkham Asylum might actually start now? I could never solve the instant crash to desktop.

Reportedly Bethsoft removed GfWL from the Steam releases of Fallout 3 at some point. I can assure you that boxed copies of Fallout 3 vanilla had GfWL, no idea about the GotY re-release however.
It was an easy fix to remove GfWL from the Fallout 3 equation anyway.

Disc-based copies of AA/AC have shitty SecuROM DRM. These patched GotY Steam releases only have Steamworks. Don't bother with disc copies, they have the more malicious DRM.

Yeah, I ended up buying a second copy of Arkham City when it was on sale specifically because the shitty secureROM protection had never been cracked. It was eventually cracked in Arkham Asylum but it was a massive patch, akin to the old Starforce cracks for the Splinter Cell games.

Tried to add my disc copy of Arkham Asylum's key to steam, got an invalid product code message, so I guess that's not working yet.
Sulphur on 18/10/2013 at 08:40
Nope, retail key codes don't seem to be working on Steam yet.

Thanks for that. DRM is something I've never really had issue with either. I'll be getting these on Steam after all. Thank you.
My Fallout 3 copy is the GOTY edition on DVD, btw. GFWL never reared its ugly head during or after install even though it's proudly shown on the cover. My karma is extra good, eh?
