Arkham City vanilla isn't even working on my machine. The SecuROM activation just fails when I input my key, just as well this came along when it did then.
It's really shitty of MS shutting down GfWL next year (after only just 7 years too! Talk about rubbing salt in the wound). Dozens of games that are married to the service will end up crippled, including popular favourites like GTA IV: EfLC and Dark Souls.
I'd happily use Rockstar's stupid Social Club any day, if they patched out GfWL from EfLC (and GTA IV).
Capcom has been doing regular sales on Steam of their GfWL-enabled titles like SSFIV and Street Fighter X Tekken. Since RE6 and DmC they've been using Steamworks, so they must know about the service being shut down. It's a really shitty thing of them to do. Ultra Street Fighter IV at least will use Steamworks, but will they give existing SFIV/SSFIV owners on Steam a free upgrade? I seriously doubt it. A heavy "loyalty discount" would suffice, but I doubt that we'd even get that.

"Yesterday, an Age of Empires support web page communicated that the free to play Age of Empires Online will be discontinued on July 1, 2014. We believe in Windows/PC gaming and have long-term plans to grow our support. We expect there to be transitions as we build out new investments, but we remain committed to bringing first party gaming services and games to Windows for years to come. We will share more details in the future."

This is the only official Microsoft response I could find about the GFWL shutdown rumors.
Do I want GFWL to die? Hell no! I've got 20 or more games that use the service.

I probably do too, but I would happily sacrifice them forever if it got rid of GFWL. It has never made any game 'better', and has made an awful lot of them objectively worse.
If you want to imagine what life would be like if GFWL stayed, imagine a boot stamping on a human face, forever. With an Xbox logo on the sole.

I'll be fucking distraught if Dark Souls loses its online component. Would also like it if Rad Faction: Geurilla didn't get the dick. But otherwise, happy to lose it.

RFG should be freed and opened and modded and live forever.
That game is truly brilliant. I'd love to play that co-op a la Just Cause 2

Back on the webs, finally, down here in Appalachia. I am about to fire my rig up this morning to finish my Asylum playthrough that JUST got started before I moved. Glad I decided to log in to TTLG first! Thanks for the news, and thanks to Al_B for sorting my email/login probs. That GFWL is just ridiculous and honestly it sometimes kept me from playing certain games.
By the way, I was given Fallout 3 GOTY on Steam during the Summer Sale this summer, and as of 2 months ago, it had GFWL. I am going to check and see what's up with it now.

Oof. Then I look forward to someone making a crack which will allow saves outside of GFWL. Either that, or create an offline account and see if that survives.
