Looks nice, though (singleplayer aside) I'm still unclear as to what the big leaps are over Battlefield 2 (or 2142, if you prefer). Better graphics, obviously, and destructable environments, but what else? Just better shooting mechanics?
I think a 32-player game can be perfectly fun but I can't help but feels its a step backwards - It puzzles me how, 8 years later, we have half the player size. And it seems like MAG has blown the "consoles can't handle more than 24 players" excuse out of the water.
Newsflash, it isn't Battlefield 3, it's the sequel to Bad Company 1. There's a bigger focus on infantry combat - that's why the maps are smaller than its PC progenitors, ditto for player count and having no jets. You aren't immediately dead if don't bother with vehicles, cohesive squads of different classes working together to storm an objective is a viable tactic.
P.S. it does indeed properly support 16:10 resolutions. It's definitely not letterboxed 16:9 either.

In my experiance, the gameplay for Bad Company 2 is much tighter than the previous Battlefield games. Smaller levels means it's easier to keep the environment and objectives in focus. Less players means more teamwork (which the game really preaches - one good squad can turn the tables easily).
I've always been of the opinion that "more players" doesn't equate to a better gaming experience. 24 players in the console versions can feel plenty crowded.

single player is ~ 6hours on hard and OK, nothing special, stupid story, a few fuck-you to MW2 built in (pussies with heartbeat monitors) and the engine is OK, does not seem too optimized, at least not for dx10 where there are some ups and down in FPS no matter what resolution/quality settings I use. interface is good and you can actually use the mouse BUT there is NO PRONE / NO LEAN which is seriously idiotic and is immediately shown in the SP portion where so-called cover is just chesthigh which means crouching does not help shit and you are dead in one second. I always had to hide behind houses and hope nobody blows them up (which happens quite a lot). So, yeah, even with all the "PC" features they built in it's still a game aimed at consoles and 4 button input. don't care about MP, will never play it, BF is dead for me since their scifi outing and expansion-exclusive map packs and community dividing (which is happening again).

Wait for the Day 1 patch, the game isn't out yet.

BUT there is NO PRONE / NO CROUCH
Bullshit, there certainly is crouching. Prone was removed though during alpha testing, it made you an impossible to see target on the low console resolutions. It also ceases the cheap "Dolphin diving" tactics from previous gen PC BFs.

Do your homework, the "day one map pack" and the other one due out later on in the month ARE FREE WITH ALL NEW RETAIL COPIES. This is purposely done to combat the used game market, just like the Mass Effect 2 DLC and Dragon Age's Blood Dragon Armour + Stone Prisoner.
EDIT: The Map pack is included in the PC's Day one patch for everyone, no unlock codes needed like the console versions, so the point is moot.

no, it's not. later you have to pay for those mappacks if you wanna play them.
and sorry, i didn't mean crouch, I meant lean, I corrected that.
and bf series is known for its comm.dividing policies since BF2 so I won't be surprised if the next "proper", "everybody has to pay" DLC will do just that. Just like the "day 1 pack for ppl that bought the game before xyz but not after and not at this retailer or even used". And because ME2 + DragonAge, both awesome games did it is NO excuse for being idiotic developers caught in the publishers greedy feverdream. After DO:A and ME2 DO NOT WORK without internet access I won't be paying anything for those "tied-to-your-account" DLCs because they actually ENDAGER my game to being unplayable - or better said - invalid my savegames if the EA servers decide to time out (which they do alot in EU)

Later in March another map pack will be released containing Arica Harbor for Conquest and Laguna Presa for Rush
VIP codes are included in the box for all new purchases. Players that buy used versions and don't have a code can purchase one via the in-game store for $15. PC players will get the content as a game update.
These March map packs are free for PC users full stop, because they're bundled with regular patches.

those 2 sentences contradict themselves unless they are not for the same platform and they talk about ANOTHER mappack, not the day1 one.
EvaUnit02 on 1/3/2010 at 14:52
The first sentence is about the console versions, obviously. We'll see come release day, be prepared to eat your hat.
