The sheer freshness of BF 1942 made all its bugs and load times bearable. Frankly, I doubt I'll have as much fun with BC2 simply because what it's doing is not particularly new at this point (even if it's much, much more polished) but I look forward to getting it regardless. Though apparently the save system for the single player is entirely retarded. Or does the PC version let you save anywhere?

Fuck BF42. No game that ugly should have load times that long, seriously.
Playerbase is one of the worst ever, too.

Here's (

It works great under Vista x64 SP2 at least. If you're running the game as Admin the supplied executable will have to be as well.

To answer your question, yes, the game has some really poor checkpoint placement. Eg the first on-rails vehicle sequence has none, you have to go back to the beginning if you die.

God, some of the snipers in this game are real chumps, just parking themselves in the open (not in shrubbery or the like that would blend with their ghiles) and never move. I knifed at least 2-3 of these dudes in a game of Conquest which I just played.
Dudes camping UAV stations are similar. In the same aforementioned match:- three guy in row blindly dashed right past me to use the UAV at a capturable point. A knifed all three of them.
I earned 11 dogtags during that Conquest round, 10 of them were unique. I also earned the bronze pin for the knife.

A friend of mine likes to stick C4 on APCs before the enemy team spawns and set them off after the vehicles are halfway across the map.

Your friend sounds like just the sort of company I love to keep, m'self. Or maybe we wouldn't get along at all? I'm the sort of guy who, at the FINISH HIM!!! prompt in Mortal Kombat, always punched people in the groin instead of performing a fatality. I also used to blow up the mine generator in Descent when my opponent was right at the other end of the level.
Fuck, some days I actually had to leg it out of my own home for fear of my life.

I like sniping snipers using non-recon classes. Taking a guy out from halfway across the map with a red dot sighted M164 is a good time, especially when he's fired 2-3 shots that clinked against the cover around you.
I never go with the C4, but the ATV-bomb thing is always good for laughs.

Worse still are the snipers that stay in one place and keep sniping. At the very least move to a different window or building so you don't get sniped in return. That vapor trail is a great big SHOOT ME sign and unless you get away from it you are going to get killed.
To be fair, though, the M-16 is a stupidly overpowered gun.
