Guys, I don't even know what you're fighting about any more. I read through the last bunch of posts in the first bunch of threads here and
BANALITY OVERDOSE
Maybe I'm just getting older? :(

True, but I think BF3's min spec machine (if (
http://bf3blog.com/battlefield-3-system-requirements/) this is accurate) still uses dx10 and requires 2 gigs of ram, which I DO have. (I have a dx10 card and 4 gigs of ram.) I'd just rather have the browser inside my game, but I'll have to see how things works out on my machine once I have BF3.
If you've ever tried to play a new PC game you should know that when it comes to PC specs, "recommended" almost always means "minimum"

well, alt-tabbing is still very buggy, the startup sequence until you get into a game is longer imo and I don't see any immediate benefits for me since I don't use the social stuff...and when I am in the game I just want to hit ESC to bookmark a server or change to another one, all while playing the game. Alt-tabbing to firefox/ie for that ? I never thought I'd say that but the steam overlay is heaven compared to that.

What is wrong with you?
In other news - that jet trailer looked surprisingly good.

He's right. You can technically play games on a rig that supports minimum requirements only, but enjoy your 10fps slideshow on min settings!
SubJeff on 22/8/2011 at 15:41
Nonense. I only got a rig nearing Recommended specs for new games a few years ago (and have been upgrading since). I've always found anything above Min specs to be fine. No slideshows. Oh, did you put the setting on HIGHEST when you machine only met MINIMUM? Slap yourself in the nuts then, because you deserve it.

Sub_Jeff is absolutely right. PC games usually have scalable graphics options, save for the occasional shithouse console port.
CCCToad on 23/8/2011 at 15:47
I said usually, not always.
There's been a few times that I've been pleasantly surprised, but my general experience is that you need at least the recommended settings to get the full joy out of a new game. Hell, I've even had some games where I had a system well above the recommended settings and still had to run it on low settings for the framerate to be even playable (let alone enjoyable).

Then I'm either really really lucky, as this has never happened to me, or you're an idiot who doesn't know how to set his computer up.
I'll let you decide which is more likely.

Or maybe, just maybe, different games run differently on different hardware, and sometimes the minimum/recommended specs should be treated as a suggestion of sorts, and not the holy word from god almighty.
